Yeah it became less about a combined effort and more about trying to impress.

I was under the impression that if someone asked i'd give them my patches and a little insight on the effect chain. Cause I don't give no fucks.

Tried to make some Drumstep earlier today. I think I got a pretty "ok", not over the edge, kinda sound out of Reason, Malström and Ableton. :)
If you want details about the FX-chain and whatnot, just tell me and maybe I'll post some screens! :W:

you know who else made some drumstep earlier today?

MY MOM!!!

Oh, and that sounds really good, if that was mine I`d definitely work on trying to make a whole track out of it.

im sorry but this is a double-post. A local storm knocked out the internet at my house for the last week but i'm at a starbucks so its all good.

This growl I made with fm8, ableton vocoder, guitar rig, and ohmicide (and honestly thats about it)

fm8= initial stretchy sound harmonically rich tone + modulation using the talkbox effect

vocoder - set to pitch mode allows you to affect the sound in some weird way i don't really get and you can raise and lower it with the pitch setting. or you can modulate it with the formant knob

guitar rig - really transforms the sound by adding a bit of downsampling (just a smattering!), alsa use the whammy pitch tool to shift it down a bit less then an octave lest it get muddy.

ohmicide - just go to town in ohmicide to widen, grunge up, and phatten up the hell out of it.

(don't forget there is a lot of eqing and multiband compression used along the way to keep things balanced.)

thats pretty good. i couldnt picture it in a song tbh. i think talkbox, wowfilter, formant presets all sound super generic.

Not if used like this. This will never get old/overdone.

that sounds awesome and all, but the effect can be recreated very easily with a vocoder for the color and controlling the pitch via midi with autotune

lol

wow thanks... :D I think this will definately be a whole track in a while. still working on the growl though. I think it needs some more distortion or something, not sure though, I don't want the sound to get muddier than it ready is... fricking hard to make a clean sound haha :P

make a copy of the growl bass, low pass it, then distort, saturate, and compress the hell out of that, then layer that on top of the original, instant fatness&fullness and harmonics

Here's our latest remix / release type thing. There are some growls in there at the beginning of the drop, if anyone is interested I can talk through my process. Not perfect and if I were to do them again I'd work more on bringing out the lower mids.

Yeah...but not the point of my post. I was saying that formant modulation, while it can be annoyingly over-used in brostep growls, is also one of the classic sounds that will be neither forgotten nor over-done
