True, i think. My dad smokes about 40+ a day, he told me he only started smoking about 25 years ago, when he was 30....
Maybe i should stop while im ahead... but its still so nice...

My mate's doing this and he's actually managing, he just smokes a shit loads of bud instead but at least he's coughing up the rest... he's unlucky in some ways because both his parents smoke and he can smoke anywhere he wants whenever he wants so it's a lot more opportunities to give in

Best way to quit is to tell your self you are a non smoker and that you have quit... if you say you are 'quiting' or you are 'trying' to quit then it implys that you are giving it a go but will inevitabley fail, or that you are not putting your best effort into it. It worked for me, iv not smoked a ciggarette in 2 and a half years now
Its all psychological

Giving up myself at the moment, it's a real bitch. The worst is not the physical addiction, it's that fucking habit I have going outside and enjoying it right in front of my flat's door. Now when I'm taking a break from studying i'm like "wtf do i do now"

I'm going through a phase of cutting down at the moment. Over the last year or so I've gone down from about 10 a day to nearer 10 a week, pretty much only when I'm out as well.
For me so much more than the physical addiction it's about breaking those mental habits. At my worst, things as simple as finishing a meal, or walking out of a tube station would leave me with a massive urge to spark up, I've managed to break most of those habits now, but when I'm out with friends having a drink, I still crack, every time.

Look at my post above, saying your 'giving up' and 'at the moment' means that you arent trying much and possibly not motivated or overly bothered about quiting.
I think you really need inspiration to stop it altogether, mine personally was my grandad dying as he had lots of lung problems but you could find inspiration through just imagining what positives you would gain/ money or whatever

Also i know what you mean about having an empty void when you have a break etc. but after a couple of weeks that feeling goes away and you replace it with doing something more productive with your time. I still go outside when all the smokers do at pubs/clubs as well and just generally crack on

Well I used to smoke rollies, which means 2£ a week... Not like I was paying much. No problem related to smoking in my family, basically I'm just quitting to make sure I can and to test myself. Been a week now, I'll see how it goes

Obviously theres the physical side, but i do reckon its much more psychological than we seem to be told all the time. Like, not being able to quit because its addictive is a big weapon used by anti smoking groups to stop people starting. You reckon it might be easier for people who do smoke to quit if they hadnt been told for years that its the hardest thing they'll ever do? I do.

deffinitly, your subconscious is always telling you that its so much harder than what it is.
When i stopped i had been smoking for 5 years and went cold turkey, had no problems just because i really wanted it
dont get me wrong i believed i was addicted as id previously 'tried' to give up but couldnt last more than a week at a time

Alan Carr easy way to quit smoking. Worked for me. Patches piss me off, the nicotine tease so to speak, not worth it. Just detox cold turkey and be happy about it. Will power will fail you

I'm a new adopter to smoking and it's totally a social thing for me. Starting a new job, it has really come in in handy.
I wanna quit by the end of the year, I smoke like a 12.5g bag every like 4-5 days. Sounds wrong now that I've put it in writing. I didn't even smoke when I was 20 and now I am coming up 22, so different.
Me and my lass plan on just going cold turkey. Fuck it.

Always smoke last cig before quit at night. You wake up having already been quit for 8 hours, good start so to speak.

If there was one decision I made that I would change it was the decision to smoke. After about 28 years and smoking 30-40 I've gone since last June without. If you can knock it on the head do it now.
My partner and I both smoked, though she less than me, we worked out we were spending the equivalent of about 5k per year. That's a lot of music, bud, books, w/e

I've kept it to 3-4 a day for about 3 years. They once gave me a quick n easy smoke test in Waterloo station, to see how much tar my lungs were coughing up. She looked at me and went "you're not actually a smoker, are you?", "er, yeh, I had a smoke 15 minutes ago", "well your lungs are clean as a whistle", so I trotted off and lit another cigarette. My GP also told me that the amount I smoke is having a fairly negligible effect on my health at this age.
So, yeh, that's my rationalisation. I like the meditative affect of smoking, and don't think it's taken much of a toll on my health so far, so I'm not going to give up any time soon.

Yeah I get it...me and my lass been talking about it other day, were gunna quit on the 1st November, I mean it's ages away but summer beer garden weather is too tempting.
My smoking daily varies, sometimes it'll be like 3-4, especially if I am at home... much more at work, about 10-12 aday.

lots of people say its easy to quit, of course this is coming from the people who've never smoked; i have asthma so its really not good for me at all, ive been smokin for about 5 years now and ive made a promise to my girl to quit in 2 months (as long as she gives me a naughty video i asked for) i really hope i can keep the promise im looking to get into "blu" electronic cigarettes, 10 dollars for one which holds about 400 pulls, smoking is really more of an oral fixation for me, by the way im curious, what brands do people smoke? i prefer newports, and do they have "loosy" spots in the uk?
