they may have a similar style but they vary in different ways.. to me it just sounds like skrill take the same baseline he always uses and changes the order of things...

Seems like it's the same FM8 or Massive patches being cycled through, the same drum samples, EQed the same way...etc

Your basslines have to make sense when you're stitching them together for the "drop". Doesn't matter that you're working with hugely wonkey and distorted sounds, its still got to have something driving it forward. Rhythm. Flow.

Listen intently to the guys already pumping out tunes that you love and understand what they're doing.

Not exactly. Both are good artists, i prefer Skrillex's music to Mala's but would not criticize either of their skill. Who am i to judge, i can't make music as good as either so don't really think its my place to criticize. But having an opinion on who's music i prefer is ok, but really isn't of relevance to most production discussions. Which is why these irrelevant haters annoy me, nobody gives a shit whether or not they like Skrillex's music. The purpose of this post was to let us who are interested know of a new interview. The other comments are just there to provoke a negative response, aka trolling.

He has achieved a very large amount of success, and for that deserves peoples respect. Especially from fellow EDM producers. Whether or not you like his music, you should still show respect for what he can do.

He definitely helped. Why is old style dubstep now called dungeon? Say what you want about him, but he's definitely made his mark on the world.

Grammies are not won because of someone's talent, they are an event where the industry slaps each other on the back and congratulates people on how many records they've sold, so to be somehow putting it out there as an indicator of his talent is ridiculous. He won the grammies because he happened to jump on the bandwagon of dubstep just as 'rave' music was starting to become the big thing in America. If he had been making these same beats in 2004, would he be so huge? Without DeadMau5? Without the sudden rise in popularity of dance music everywhere?...

There are a lot of very technically accomplished amateur producers, who make music which is good enough, yet they aren't even signed, let alone winning grammies. I get that it's all subjective on whether their music is good or not, but still I firmly believe a huge factor in gaining success is actually gettong those lucky breaks. I don't think you could point to any moderately succesful producer and not see several ways in which things fell right for them and they progressed to fame, from the scene they attatched themselves exploding, or their friends gaining success and helping them out, to one influential musician feeling a demo and giving them a leg up.

tbh though, I dont really care about why skrillex s succesful, i'm more pissed off with the way this board has been infiltrated by brosteppers, who talk about brostep and want to make brostep. And I don't like brostep.
