Also in response to the talk of the hardcore continuum earlier on in this thread. I genuinely think it ended with dubstep. I'm pretty sure i remember reading an interview with zomby not long ago and him saying that we've used up all the flavours but how we mix those flavours into new formats is how this scene moves on (or something along those lines), I think it's completely possible that everything has been explored in terms of innovative structure and sound.
But let's not worry about that, If i hear a tune and think "ok that could have been made 10 years ago, but it still sounds sick", it's still heavy, I think the UK underground scene destroys itself with it's constant strive for progression. Those guys over in Berlin have been rolling techno since like fuckin 1991, whether that's a good or a bad thing, it makes you think. Are we just trying to move too fast to let things actually flower?
I know when im writing music, im not thinking about context in terms of scenes or genres, i'm thinking "i like that element of that sound and this element of this sound, im gunna re-write those elements and mix and match them as i see fit", creativity is in no way tied down. It jus so happens my biggest inspirations are UK Hardcore, Jungle, DnB and Garage
