I think it would lose something if they started signing up all these "dark 130" producers. Don't get me wrong, I do like the sound and there's some great tunes coming from it. But I do think there's a danger of it just becoming dubstep/grime at 130... and following the same pattern.

I think the point is they only sign the best ones (Wen, Beneath, Visionist, Logos). But this is what I love about Keysound/Dusk + Blackdown right now, cos they'll play the dark 130 stuff alongside a bit of Mista Men, or E.m.m.a. or LV or whatever. Injects so much colour and variety. And variety is what I'm digging right now, personally I would find it very boring if we just moved solely into "dark 130" territory.

No disrespect meant to anyone at all.

if they play the dark stuff along side the synthier stuff one could probably assume they would release music in the same manner? i cant ever see a label like keysound limiting themselves like that.
fully agree with you tho.

and i dont think its "darkness" that really holds the tunes together. I would say "rudeness" :)

mmm yeah I get the feeling they would massively saturate themselves if they put out that sort of quantity. Would be doing themselves an injustice if they didn't limit themselves to what a) perfectly fits in with what they want to put out, which I'm sure changes over time b) coming from producers who are consistently churning out great tunes that are getting people interested and b) what is the absolute cream of the crop of the dubs they get sent. That means they're going to play a lot of sick tunes which aren't quite release-material. It wouldn't make business or artistic sense to do otherwise, I don't think.
(this comes from someone whose had stuff played by them too, so obviously no disrespect from me either, Epoch, Facta et al are sick and will reap the benefits in the long term, through Keysound or otherwise)

That said, I know fuck all about running a label.

haha well cheers for that, but I made it like 2 months after I got fruity loops and still didn't really know what I was doing, so didn't think anyone would like it...hoped having it free to download would at least get a few more people listening. Won't be doing that again though lol.

but if D+B or any other labels are reading, that DL button is easily turned off ;-)

i do also feel, however, that discussions like this, and labels like "dark 130", and pre-emptive descriptions of how the scene is, and how it will develop, do just as much damage. i'm not saying that scene developments shouldn't be discussed, but determining that a certain fledgling offshoot is somehow destined to fail and become generic after so little time of exploration and development is often done too hastily. i think it's far too early to define any of these producers as some single sound, they're all doing sick things and taking completely different sound palates and textures, the only things unifying them is (roughly) bpm (although most do stuff at 140 and 120 and all sorts as well) and a loose "less is more" aesthetic.

i don't mean this to sound like an attack on you - it's not; you're being completely fair and balanced. like I say, I just sort of take against discussions of genre that take this tone

i think i worded that a bit unclearly, was referring to discussion that sort of complains about certain strain of stuff developing, ie "this dark garage stuff is just going to lead to things getting stale"

no doubt you were one of the first to recognize what was brewing back then!

you are right though, it is 2013, and we should keep looking forward >>

you make it sound like these man will sign up anyone who sends them tunes lol. quality control is strong with this label, pretty sure keysound don't duplicate their releases.

nah that's nonsense. dsf gets it lucky, grimeforum would probably label everything as old grime rebores (which really, alot of the stuff floating around now is). everything must be labelled bro, everything...

(although 'dark 130' is a bit leave it yh, just call it grime tbh)

^nah, we're about nine years past that stage. scene has been more instrumental based for the past few years - it's why so many many beatmakers are dipping into this 'new' territory.

the whole 'wat do u call it?' argument should be ditched just because its a lower bpm.
dizzee, platinum 45, j-sweet, etc. were all making beats around that 130 mark back then. it was all grime.
