mromgwtf wrote:Seriously there has to be an equalizer vst where you define few "states" of the equalizer, i.e. peak at 500hz and 2000hz, and second one: peak at 700hz and notch at 1300hz. And then you have a slider or knob that when moved, interpolates between those states which can give you easy automation of vowel eqs and shit lol

http://www.image-line.com/support/FLHel ... hilter.htm

This can do exactly that :D

You just set some automation curve of a parameter, then your x or y knob (whichever you chose for this curve) controls that parameter based on the curve.

Since this can use multiple types of curves and as many points as you want you can have many many "states" and many types of interpolation

People have made vowel filters/combs/phasers and lots of other neat things with this filter.

Unfortunately you either have to buy the pack of plugins it comes in (99 dolars and lots of generic plugins) or own fl studio.

Although if you do buy the pack it comes with such beauties as delay bank (fancy multitap delay), waveshaper (a very very good waveshaper I use all the time that allows infinitely complex waveshaping curves), the love philter (previously mentioned) and wavecandy (wonderful audio analysis tool)

Here is a bunch of info on vowel frequencies so you can copy them and use them for vowel filters. http://pastebin.com/KU5RCWBi

Okay guys, let me try to explain how I got that sound...

1: First of all open or make a good growl preset (in this case I used my old skrillex remake growl in sytrus, check my sig for the DL.)

2: Route to a new mixer channel.

3: EQ however sounds good (I boosted the high end a bit.)

4: Send through love philter. This is where it gets difficult to explain the exact filter settings...

Basically;
Input ->
Lowpass with cut at 3/4 and res at a low setting, lowpass cutoff follows X mod 1:1 ->
Highpass with cut at 1/2 and res at 1/4, HP cut follow X mod with a linear curve very slightly (cut = X * 0.1) ->
Peak with whatever settings sound good, you can make it follow x like I did if you want ->
Bandpass with cut at 1/3 and res at 1/3, cut follows x mod with a sort of sine-ish curve but it can be linear too
-> output

5: Put through frequency splitter and apply slight transient boosting to highs via waveshaper and chorus to mids.

6: The Bandpass on the philter peaks like none other even at low volumes so I put this all through a limiter.

7: Reverb to taste.

8: modulate mod X on the philter.

Viola, reesey growly things.
I tried this with a square wave and it made a neat reese.

Do note: A lot of the vowel movement from this growl came from the synth not the filter, the filter is almost just a fancy lowpass.

That's a crisp one, throw us a bone here o:
Do you have a lot of effects on it?

I plan on writing up something much longer in the next couple days. Im just super busy with music right now so be patient. I will deliver.

in regards to effects i usually try to do as much as i can with very little mostly to save cpu lol. The growl in that song is massive, a couple eqs modulation, compression to level out the sound and ohmicide distorting the high end. A lot of it is pitch bend and context.

once again ill write up some stuff later...

Nope but I'm not spending money until I hear legit Skrillex growls instead of the mushy, stinky, smelly vowel filter from the first one.

It depends how you use it. If you just put a bandreject and put on vowel mode you're going to sound like every 13 year old brostep producer.

This new wowfilter looks pretty interesting and 10x better than the first one.

That actually looks pretty good. Still, automating a parametric EQ does the job for me. Also, I've just started using FL Love Philter and I'd prefer that to a new WOW filter. However, i'm not going to lie, the new one has a pretty awesome sound.

And stop it with age jokes.
