hello everybody i have a question ive been making but not enough house type/ almost deep techno style synth leads latley. i would post up example but at work right now but almost like the kind in my signature song that comes in after intro on song. but ive going for a deeper style latley ive had luck but not exactly what im looking for. been playing around in operator and creating deep timbre with alot of color i guess and shaping around and also using anaolg usually use both oscs and detune 1 from the other with a tri wave then trurning up the unison to get some cool electric type sounds. but was woundering if anyone was doing the same or had any tips on what they do.??
srry if ?? is choppy havent had alot of posts. thanks in advance

Try using a square or saw wave and detuning it instead of just a triangle. It will add more grit. Also, play around with how all the oscillators are mixed together by selecting the different pattern of squares and that will change your sound.

also, is there any way to add fx in impulse so that it would affect only certain samples and not all of them?

Not sure on this myself, but to get around this either automate the volume, or the 'device on/off'?

Yes you just have to drag and drop the FX right on the sample you want it to affect.

It is an effect that never stops unless you turn it off. Automate the on/off button to have it come in/go out during the song.

Well the ADSR envelope doesn't really change the core sound. A stands for attack which determines how fast the sound fades in, D is for Decay which is for how long the sound plays for( beep vs. beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep), S stands for Sustain which is what level the sound plays at for the duration you hold it down, and R is for release which stands for how fast the volume fades out once you take your finger off the key. You can mess around with them but I don't really think too many people automate these very drastically. To answer you question about the velocity, key, and after touch. I don't know what the key and after touch ones do but the pitch bend is quite useful.

Is there any reason you're using impulse and not a drum rack?

yeah, i can't explain how but somehow the samples sound thin and lame when dropped in drum rack as opposed to impulse. i have no idea why because the factory kits that live has sound perfect. just that when i start building one from my own samples is when drum rack sounds shit!

Are you sure it's the drum rack or just your sample selection/layering abilities

i'm pretty sure that it's the drum rack because the same exact samples sound way different (fuller, louder, bigger) in impulse than in drum rack. a classmate of mine who also uses ableton to make tracks said that he also experiences drum rack to have this problem

Could it be that Impulse sets the velocity->volume at 70% by default, whereas it's 0% by default in Sampler/Simpler?
If you own Drum Rack, there is no reason to use it over Impulse.

The reason for this is that the sampler inside drum rack has the amp ADSR settings set wrong by default. You have to put the release at full to get the entire length of the sample.

Exactly. For that reason, I choose not to use the drum rack at all for those purposes.

It's weird cos when I go into 'defaults' where it says to go, the only option is 'slicing'...
