Win 7 is worth it imo!

I heard that europe has to pay for this when it's released but america gets it for free.

Still want to try this though, haven't really heard anything bad about it, well it is hard to fuck up beyond Vista.

Just as an update, I installed Win 7 a month ago and still have not encountered any problems!

I definately prefer 7 over XP. Things like the search bar and control panel are revised and easier to use. The whole network connections thing is easier too.

I like the way that when something is installing or a file is copying, the progress is displayed directly on the task bar. The fact that I can reorder windows displayed on the task bar is my favourite new feature though!

Upgrade now!

For those that are using the 64 bit OS with FL Studio. Has anyone encountered any compatibility issues when using VST plugins ( mainly 32 bit VST's) with FL Studio?

I never had any problems when using fruity and vsts in the 64-bit version of vista, aint copped 7 yet but i assume they will work. I mainly use FL 8 albino 3 massive and the arturaia minimoog and i ahve had no problems whatsoever running them.

VST's only wont work if the DAW (Cubase, Fruity Loops, etc.) is 64-bit not if the operating system (Windows 7, XP, Vista, etc) is 64-bit. So if you install Windows 7 64-bit but continue using the same DAW you have been using with a 32-bit OS, all your 32-bit VSTs will still work. Cubase 5 gives you the option of installing a 32-bit or 64-bit version for this reason. Even if you have a 64-bit OS and want to take advantage of the performance increase, you may still want to use the 32-bit version for VST support.

Example:

Windows 7 64-bit with Cubase 5 32-bit -- 32-bit VSTs work, 64-bit VSTs wont work
Windows 7 64-bit with Cubase 5 64-bit -- 32-bit VSTs may not work, 64-bit VSTs work

If your running 64bit windows but 32 bit DAW will there actually be any improvement? Or would it just mean that when you want to upgrade to 64bit DAW that your OS would support it?

Also does anyone know if its possible that NI etc would release updates to make 32bit VSTs 64bit? Or would that not be possible?

You may still see improvement because the operating system (Windows 7 64-bit) will be running faster and be able to take advantage of the 64-bit features.

It's definitely possible, some VSTs are already being updated to 64-bit. I don't specifically know about NI, but my guess is most developers will start to update their VSTs to 64-bit as 64-bit becomes the standard.

I have it. I'll reserve judgment until after the "honeymoon" period with Win7.

Though, I am missing my Mac though.

so cubase 5 is compatible with 7?
just need to check on uad cards and plugins and on rme card and i'm sold

Yep. Been using the combination for months now.

i worked whit it now for a day, a lot of things seem to bee copyed by mac os x.........

i din't beleve for a long time that they copy things from apple, but now i see. was using vista for about 2 years used mac os for 3 months...... but i think it's the right way they did. it's way faster.

Just bought a copy myself, 64 bit version, haven't installed it yet. Used Vista 32 for last ~2 years and IMO it was a solid OS after SP1, but curious about the new gear... my only worry is some m-audio hardware might not work, been reading their support forums and lots of hardware is still missing proper Win7 drivers, might hold off on the install until that bizz gets sorted

This seems very positive. When I am ready to build my new monster machine
I will look forward to giving W7 a spin, lots of good things being heard all over
the internet.

Just ordered a new laptop with 64 bit Windows 7 on. Has anyone tried a NI Audio Kontrol 1 with it yet? The latest driver mentions 64 bit vista so fingers crossed..

Just installed it on my desktop machine! Testing time!
