If the PC is only for music, torrent a version of XP lite or get nlite and create a lite version of XP, never take it online (stops you becoming distracted), just install ASIO4ALL, transfer samples over on a usb stick, bingo, workstation that goes like shit off a stick.

Failing that, get a mac and dont worry about any of this crap :)

DONT do this if running XP. XP actually runs worse if you take off all the fancy schmancy settings.

Go get Windows 7. It's amazing. It doesn't even have defrag anymore as it stores files so damn efficiently!

What? I've NEVER heard this before. In fact, I've constantly heard the opposite. Maybe you know something I don't (this is very possible).

wow

that has to be the worst advice I have ever read on this forum

there are ways to optimize your windows install without using a hacked out operating system

if this works for you, consider yourself VERY lucky

Digital Producer Step by Step Guide to optimization

^^this is dated 2002 but a lot of the info is still relevant

I also use Registry Mechanic to keep my registry free of broken links

also scan for adware spyware weekly and try not to go to unsafe websites

maintenence is a must

and backup monthly if not more frequently

I feel you on that one. Recycle 2 is out of date, big time!!!

Needs updating badly, and until it is, they will remain one customer down.

I had FL cracked and I did that registry cleaner and it deactivated it or whatever the term is. you gotta go back to the file....it'll probably be called "registry something or other"...double click it and it should all be gravy
