you should just try to get better at production its a great little hobby to slowly get better at , and as you get better and better it becomes more fun. at least for me. as far as actually writing melodies and such, try taking up piano lessons, when u get good take music theory. practise and practise and ull get good

Me, i don't currently produce, just DJ...
Raff and 9er deal with the production side of Macabre Unit, im too busy with work/djing/promoting to have a good few hours to sit in the studio and construct something..
maybe in the future, but right about now, its technical Djin i concentrate on..

Myself, but thats changing
Trust me its hard being a DJ who dont produce, but now I feel like I am ready to produce, I didnt before because I didnt feel like I really wanted to. (Allow making beats just to further my career, its souless just to knock up something with the mindset that its gonna make me big)

used to produce but didnt show anybody my tunes cause they were swaggo, then i started work & it fell off. Might try some funky, dunno tho

Was thinking this the other day,
Most DJ's are only noticed becuase of their productions in my eyes. Yeah their good DJ's but its their tunes that get them recognized, Same with all genres.

Too many producers out there....it seems that most people play the same 50 odd records at anytime anyway, yet we have 1000's of producers. I'd much rather have 1000's of DJ's trying to be a creative and competative with less music, the skill level would increase and create better club experiences, DJ's being recognized for skills alone instead of being behind a big track is important for the longevity and quality of any form of dance music.

I dont think you have to produce to be a dj, you've just got to be original, mix it up by playing different genres, old tunes and stuff that alot of people havent heard from smaller labels and lesser known producers? I'm sure alot of producers make their tunes for other people to put in sets, otherwise they wouldnt release them? I'm only saying this because i cant get my head round any of the software (even fruity loops) and I have no musical talent.... you should have heard me play the recorder when i was 7
