Props for the informative article. Really a solid snapshot of the Bay Area scene and many of the better known faces/names.

Now we just gotta all keep putting the work in and hopefully watch this scene blow up.

SF Weekly and SFBG are quality publications - from my (admittedly limited) travels in the US the bay is blessed to not have purely drivel for newspapers out there. SFBG carries some seriously radical political stuff too, i think? Anyway props to the SF crew.

nice piece, i like the balanced perspetive.

"One criticism I've heard is how can you play dubstep at 1 or 2 a.m. when people want to really dance?' People haven't quite figured out how to move to it — they kind of wobble up and down and let the bass do its thing."
-Maneesh

mans must learn the way of the skank

NO OFFENCE to anyone involved in this but...

That was the biggest load of shit that I have ever read.

It's like they have the total wrong end of the stick on every aspect of it.

It starts off with a question which is not even addressed until halfway through the mindless drivel comes a point of view which is so stuck up its own arse that it may aswell select itself and press delete/

The writer acts like dubsteps fate is in the hands of other Genres fans and is trying to describe it to them fans by saying what it's like etc. Which he doesn't do in a good way, coz he starts yappin bout snakes and frequencies etc.

why's everyone biggin this shit up?? it's obviously not what tings are about. talk about bandwagons

this:

"Newbies are most likely to stumble over the bass line, which uncoils from the woofers with all the delicacy of a python engorged after a large meal. Then it just lies there in the lowest frequencies, sluggish and perverse. The heaviness might roll over, stretch out a bit, and wobble up to the mid-range for a beat or two, but only to ooze back into the sub-bass murk again. "

...is the most descriptive paragraph i have ever read about SUBBASS.

teehee...

Ah, nice to see some recognition for the SF crew - smack in the mouth for the local record shop owner who told me that "it's just a London thing and it's dying on its arse". Big ups for all your hard work. Thought the article was pretty good compared to some I've read. Vice does appear to be trendy, ironic Nathan Barley fodder so best ignored unless you've really got nothing better to be doing ever.

And Sapphic, totally agree - that's a damn good description. :D

Keep smokin the crack mate. You talk like you own the scene cos you been to forward coupla times. Maybe youre better off on the rewind forum with the other kids.

Really enjoyed reading this. It is very impotant that the scene is getting this kind of coverage on a world wide basis. It makes me really proud to be part of an emerging scene thats getting interest from such far flung parts of the world. Big up the west coast massive each and every... Large.

Oh yeah, stop with the hating for fuck sake. Can we have a little bit of solidarity please? Or is the scene not underground and not deserving of respect due to an article (good may i add) in a paper based on the west coast of America?

Speaking of haters. After being directed to the old thread about that guys toons (thanks 7 below). I couldn't help but notice a good portion of the hating camr from J J. What happened to him? Has he been kicked off due to over and unnecesisary aggressive posts. Could it be any thing to do with Ekaj feeling he had to leave the forum because of what happened with J J?

???????????

:z:

Reading Blackdown's latest Pitchfork column did make me realise how far this has all come in the last few years, and how it's gone from 300 presses up to something worldwide. And the US crew have been particulary enthusiastic in getting involved in DJ'ing, production and promotion so I think any respect that they get is A GOOD THING!! Especially good considering how much more expensive these plates are when sent to the states so it does show a lot of dedication.
