To go deeper, it was cats like Paul Chambers, Ron Carter, Mingus and Ray Brown!

I do play live bass in a lot of my productions but it is usually more for my brokenbeat kind of material. I have not done it yet for dubstep.

He's a very good example of a bassist holding the low-end while still being melodic and playing around the guitars and drums, though.

I'm rusty when it comes to death metal, though. Black (especially), thrash and sluge metal and have almost completely overtaken most of my metal listening habits. I still bump some Autopsy, Gorguts and Cryptopsy (minus the abomination that is their last album) on occasion, though.

Who woulda thunk the biggest doucher in the band would be Flo Mounier, though. I saw them once like.. 2 or 3 years ago, still with Lord Worm. Now THAT was a a great show. I barely see metal lately, though. The Dillinger Escape Plan and the Red Chord in the summer and possibly Marduk and Vader later this year, but who knows really.

Yeah, it's mostly inconsiderate assholes thinking the whole dancefloor belongs to them while others are just trying to groove to the music.

Went to a festival this year and the friend I went with mostly went for the metalcore and I just went along with her because nothing was on for me at the time and we were both so fucking relieved to not have to worry about antisocial crowdsurfers trying to kick us in the face when we went to see some hip-hop (Black Milk, something I'd been wanting to see).

Hey, just had a chance to check these, thanks for the link. It sounds really nice, these Cynic guys. I like the fusion experimental aspects of this.

I used to jam with a speed metal drummer. With his technique and double bass kicks combined with my jazz training with a dubwise low end theory, it led to some really interesting music. I've heard some Bill Laswell stuff that was kind of on this tip.

Speaking of which, to bring back to the topic of Primus, did you know that the guitarist, Larry LaLonde, used to be in a death metal band? That was one of the fusions that I liked about Primus was the crazy basslines, the abstract metal rooted guitars and wicked polyrhythmic drumming.
