Yeah man, played my first set last night. Took me about three tunes to realise that the crossfader had absolutely no effect :P No-one seemed to care though, as everyone who was there at the start of my set stayed until the end! Was well chuffed with that.

I loved every minute of it, I WANT MORE!

My first time was just a a house/garden rave. Really nice atmosphere till everyone got a bit drunk and high. Some guy just shuved me off the decks and then tried to mix vex'd in, which was some bad bad mixing. So everyone dancing booed and threw him off the decks lol. Madness!! Im such a bad sweater, so bad. Lol. But i dont think that will every change. I always take an extra t-shirt with me. Just enjoy yourself and everyone will see you smiling and feeling the music. They'll love it!

Extra t-shirt is a must. Cook up some of your favourite tea it will help you calm down a bit with familiar element and all. Most importantly, enjoy yourself & music you are representing & people will feel it.

I'm DJing my first gig in two days. It's at a local bar, not even a club, and 90% of the people there don't know what dubstep is either. I'm using a pretty ghetto setup as well, Macbook Pro with Virtual DJ and a Hercules RMX Controller. I don't even have a sub, I'm using two EV Monitors - they do have really nice sound and good low end, but nothing beats a nice, fat sub. Gotta save up some cash before I can get that...

Get your first few tunes that you have in mind to mix, and practice them before the show, once you've mixed the first couple of tracks your well on your way. I'm always pumped for my sets, a little bit nervous, primary thing to keep in mind:

It's just you and the music, nothing else matters.

Have fun,
Cheers.

you want some advice?

simple

ENJOY IT

you know, practise at home, rock at the club! don't be nervous, if you fuck it it up, try to fix it really quick or just backspin the mofo, oh, and don't do "a set" bring your recordbag... (or mp3 collection) your mix can be as tight as a 14 year old vagina, but if people aint dancing it's pointless, it's about the crowd, they payed to have a good time, you are the DJ, go give them a good time!

This one time at a club in Rotterdam I was booked for a breakcore/hardcore set so I started DJing these awesome new techyhardcore records, mix was tight but people didnt digged that shit so I backspinned one of the records, layed on ruffneck rules the artcorescene and BAM! back was my dancing crowd...

oh and yeah, bring an extra tshirt
