Can u clear something up? I've never owned an mpc (wish!), does the mpc have swing and/or shuffle quantization? Do people use the term interchangeably?
THX

yes the MPC has a swing function. it is known for heavier swing in general and i read somewhere that it also provides slight lag on the 8ths whereas most other swing/quantize algorithms lock them in. but this can be replicated. yep the terms are interchangeable

MPC Swing is different than swing on most other sequencers/DAWs because it moves some notes forward and some back.
Basically this is how it affects the beats:
1. No change
2. Moves Forward
3. Moves Back
4. Moves Forward

I know that Ableton has a MPC swing preset, how good is this at replicating that off the MPC?

To my ears, I think both the MPC and the SP1200 "groove" settings don't sound quite accurate.
HOWEVER: I have yet to A/B them to the real thing. After I move I will and I will post the results.
I have a feeling that my ears are colored by my love for all things hardware.

truth
but if you take a beat from the MPC you should be able to extract the groove fine enough
maybe do it multiple times, once on just 1/16 notes and 1/4 notes etc

I love to experiment with garage drums, still not got that swing that maybe Synkro has.. (I'm thinking "Inhale")
I've tried to replicate that beat and still can't. :/
