at least it could be the celebration of that magic that occurred last yearboomnoise wrote:not sure the magic could be repeated to be honest. a year on surely we're in a different place and it's about going on differently.
Is There Gonna Be A Breezeblock Dubstep Wars Anniversary Mix

good! i just agree with your post basically, the music's in a difft place now - and, furthermore, now all you breezeblock converts have been converted, you know you can get innumerable new sets from rinse, sub fm, etc for download... i.e. what would be the purpose?boomnoise wrote:feeling the sarcasm.mos dan wrote:i think breezeblock dubstep warz day should be declared a national holiday, in order to pay the show the appropriate reverence. how are we supposed to go to work, get on with our normal lives etc when we know how important that day is?
christmas and birthdays retain their pizzazz every yearboomnoise wrote:not sure the magic could be repeated to be honest. a year on surely we're in a different place and it's about going on differently.
im sure a breezeblock anniversary mix would too
6 djs showcasing 4 or 5 killer dubs that wont be heard again for a while, what isnt magic about that?
give us a little tease of the sound of 2007, for sure i agree dubstep is at a different point but the mix would be a celebration of the music at this point in time...if nothing else it would showcase the new direction its taken
this has been happening all year round regardless; it's dubplate culture not something exclusive to the dubstep wars. i thik you should listen to more rinse fm.RasDisOne wrote:christmas and birthdays retain their pizzazz every yearboomnoise wrote:not sure the magic could be repeated to be honest. a year on surely we're in a different place and it's about going on differently.

events don't need to be repeated on anniversaries. one is not born again for instance. perhaps a nostalgic playback of the original show and some jelly and ice cream could suffice?

I have a different anniversary in mind than airing Dubstep Warz Part 2. As I have just notified the forum, I have set up a community Dubstep blog (although it won't be fully ready until the 15th of January), and I'm inviting all and sundry to submit articles. The site is called Darkside Sophistication http://darksidesophistication.blogsome.com/
Hard address to remember I know, so best to bookmark it.
THE RELEVANCE THIS HAS TO THIS TOPIC is that the date of the site being started proper is the anniversary of the show, and that one of the first articles will look at how important the show was for the scene.

hello
im really touched that there's such strength of feeling about Dubstep Warz..
it was a show that took over 2 months to put together.. working every day on it..
Mala and Jamie from Vex'd helped me very much.. and i spoke for hours with all the artitsts involved about about how we could bring such a complex mosaic together in just 2 hours on air..
it was all about capturing the energy at what i percieved to be the flashpoint of the scene...
so many key playaz gave their voices from all over the UK and the world so that we could project a sense of how far Dubstep was already reaching..
we even had a special jingles package built (check Loefah's sample in 'Boiler Suit'!)
most importantly, the producers who played that night built what are now seminal 2006 dubs exclusively for that show.. and the show's success is a great testemony to their trust in me, and also their own vision of how powerful it could really be, if they came with the plates...
since then we've had:
Burial - album preview
Boxcutter - live session
DMZ vs Iration Steppas live on the night DMZ first stepped up to play on the Iration rig in Leeds..
N-Type & Horsepower sets recorded the night FWD>> first stepped up to The End
Dark Garage special El-B vs Oris Jay - tracing the origins of the sound from its garage roots all the way to present day dubstep...
and related sessions:
The Bug with 10 live MCs from differing scenes..
Milanese
Various Production
etc...
and on Thursday 21st December young buck Reso makes his debut!
i'm marking the anniversary of Dubstep Warz with a 45 minute back-2-back session from the Original Croydon badbwoys, and they have carte blanche to push this mix as hard as they like, and play whatever they see fit..
BENGA vs SKREAM
January 4th >> 5th... 2am-4am..
there are so many other producers and DJs i'd love to respresent in 2007, and i'd be really interested to hear your suggestions...
i'm not sure another Dubstep Warz would really work.. i'm not a fan of sequels because as a rule, they're never quite as strong as the original... but also in the aftermath the original is then endlessly compared and contrasted and critiqued, which i don't want for Dubstep Warz... i just wanted the show to be loved for what it was in that moment in January 2006... which is what happened on a massive global scale that none of us could have ever predicted! there was a magic in the studio that night the night 4 real.. but we can conjour that in many different way in 2007...
let's push things forward...
with love and maximum respect
