Instant messenger is even better. Email is ok, especially if you are in different time zones. Soundcloud is easier to ignore lol. If by aim it doesnt hurt to say "hey whats up, do you mind me sending a tune" etc. Finding aim handles may be easier than you think, they are usually attached to posts on here! Dont be scared, if people didnt want you yo contact them that way they wouldnt display them on here for all to see.

yes!

great advice in here so far...

here is the wrap up:

1. Don't send anything you wouldn't play out yourself.
2. Don't be pushy or annoying (it really does get old).
3. Don't overwhelm the label with more than three or four tunes.
4. Use download links or instant messenger.

here are a few I'd like to add...

5. Be sure to put your name and some kind of contact info in the file name or in the metadata (id3 tag) of the tune. You have no idea how often prople forget to do this!

and last but not least....

this is one that has happened to my label more than once...

6. Keep your committments!!!

meaning... if you are shopping a tune around to multiple labels and label A hits you up a week later and you say "yes! I'd love to put this tune on your label"

three days later label B hits you up trying to sign the same tune but you already promised it to label A...

Keep that verbal agreement or (as a few people have realized) you will burn bridges with a potential business partner.

keep your committments, build trusted friendships & relationships

FWIW since we're all going across different platforms and chat clients, download links are the most consistent.

i recommend dubfiler ;)

i DEFINTELY don't recommend anything like mediafire or rapidshare that's got a bunch of fake links and pop-up junk screens.

^^ agreed

and please don't use any of the file services that make you wait say... 45 seconds

such a dealbreaker

Yeah dubfiler is only good for 2 tunes. I ain't payin' for it sry. I have had good luck with sendspace tbh, even my distro accepts sendspace. I would always have a link ready to shoot out in case but that still requires clicking on it and downloading. Most labels have aim on auto. Good way to stick it on their hard drive with them not even having to do anything. Maybe it is just me that is that lazy? :6:

I use mediafire atm. I would go to something that doesn't have ads don't there's no other free hosting site that lets you keep track of all the files you've uploaded. If anyone knows of one, please let me know.

I just put my email in on sendspace and then everything is right there in my gmail tbh.

Would sending a link to your myspace music page be another good way for the label to listen to your music ?

well yeah, obviously it would. but the label would be listening to your music at the lowest quality imaginable. not necessarily the best way to get those tracks signed.

I would most likely just ignore it tbh. I accept full 320's nothing less nothing more. Most everyone else is the same.
