You do realize that dubstep itself has more than its fair share of patchouli-reekin' burning-man neo-rainbow potato-dread motherfuckers among its own American fanbase, don't you? It actually stopped me from going to shows for a while, felt like someone had bussed in a bunch of unwashed Goa asshats all of the sudden.Helix [Delay] wrote:Having seen their American fanbase, I rage whenever I hear the name Shpongle.
I really try not to let the idiocy of a band's fanbase affect how I see them but that's obviously not always possible (like the Dead for example.)
Now, I realize that Shpongle is closely tied to the whole Goa thing, but musically it's pretty heady stuff. It's not just more cookie-cutter 4/4 garbage with a stutter gate and some fucknut riding the resonance knob and claiming he's reinventing music in the process. Shpongle productions are deep, multilayered, well produced tunes. Yeah, sometimes it gets a little longwinded and jam-rock-esque, but all in all I think the sound pushes a lot of genre and production envelopes.
