That goes back to the average sales argument I made. You can name the top few labels or producers and use them as examples of the status quo, but they don't represent the general direction of sales do they? The point is that those sales prove that a couple of labels are doing well.

So a bunch of scene kids are buying vinyl. As soon as the next emo goth trend rolls into town they'll be all over it and leave it behind. How long have you worked for a distributor, label or as a touring DJ or producer exactly? You seem to have an interest in proving that sales are up because it validates you as a vinyl collector. But you don't collect indie vinyls I bet, so what does Dubstep have to do with it? It's what you're buying personally. You WOULD defend your position. See, I collect vinyl as well and you'd think we share the same opinion of what is happening. But my need to be right isn't clouding my judgment here. I see the writing on the wall.

So it comes back to what the sale of vinyl has to do with you personally... aside from defending what appears to be a long held snobbish stance, nothing. Yes, what does Dubstep have to do with this. Obviously people are trying to make the argument that vinyl is strong and they are fucking kidding themselves.

I don't need to ask myself shit about my sales because I don't have anything to sell. I don't produce and I don't release records anymore. What you should be asking yourself as a person who never has released a record, is what you even know about it at all.

File sharing is at an all time high. I guess that is why LPs are selling... for all 5 of the labels in Dubstep who released one this year.
1. I dont you from adam, so i'm not going to sit here making assumptions about you beyond what we're discussing.
2. You don't know anything about me, so don't even play yourself by trying this bait assumption game about me personally. Its fucking irrelevant to the discussion here and frankly shows just how much you know about the state of this scene.
3. Go on and think anything you want about dubstep sales, and the writing on the wall, as you've shown all your cards by posting that RIAA cartoon. Whatever makes you feel better, must be right....right?

if there's more vinyl being bought (regardless of genre), that means there's more plants pressing vinyl, more mastering houses in business, more variety being pressed, more lathe's being used, etc ,etc, etc. More vinyl consumed helps dance music survive a few more years. helps the 12" survive a few more years. How anyone cannot support this is beyond me. it HELPS everyone!

i'm done, and lets get this discussion back to technics, and hyping up heresay....

why would Panasonic stop production of what i assume is the best selling vinyl turntable on the market? I would have thought other smaller companies would fold way before Technics did?

Smells like bullshit to me.

I agree they don't.

But these do:

2008:
Vinyl sales double in 2008:

2009:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_b ... -2009.html

Vinyl is a small part of the market but it has been growing year on year since 2007. 2009 has been the best year in vinyl sales in 20 years.
So, people who collect vinyl are both snobbish and want to be part of a mass, pop market? Right.
I don't need to ask myself shit about my sales because I don't have anything to sell. I don't produce and I don't release records anymore. What you should be asking yourself as a person who never has released a record, is what you even know about it at all.
So now you're saying that you're not involved in the industry ... but still have the inside scoop.

This is just a blatant appeal to people's sense of authority and is an entirely empty basis for any sort of argument. Think about how you construct your arguments before publicly discrediting your own intelligence.

I can name at least 20 without even thinking.

key lock, key correction, bpm readout... so basically you spend more to look cool and have the turntable do all the DJing for you.

@RBNC: I have as much of an inside scoop as anyone else who doesn't run a label does. Definitely as much if not more than Seckle does. I think I know one person outside of my close inner circle that doesn't run a label or a distributor or run a night. I collect vinyl. Collecting it is not snobbish. Making it out to be some end all, be all... as if, that is snobbish. It's another means to an end. That's all it is. I don't know about you, but if my HD crashed and I lost all of my music, I'd be in quite the state. The same state as vinyl being lost? Absolutely not. But as I bought all the tunes on my HD you can imagine that several gigs of bought tunes adds up.

What I am questioning is Seckle's need to constantly defend vinyl culture and clutch it to his chest. I simple search on this forum under his screen name reveals that he consistently talks about vinyl and dubplate culture in mythic/mystical terms. Truth of the matter is it's just another type of brush with which to paint. Nothing else.

Supply and demand 101:

What can we ascertain from the closing of factories that build turntables?

Answer: Less of them are needed. I wonder why that is if vinyl is selling better than ever. Must be those Gemini's cutting into their profits. That or Numark. Vinyl sales are great man. Blame cheap belt driven tables.

Go back to sleep.

That was a joke bro. I know you use vinyl, the tables you use give that away. But are you implying that those who use Ableton and CDJ are somehow not DJing? I've yet to find the "mix this shit for me" option for either of these. Maybe someone can point it out for me

The st-150's are actually made from the techinics design when the patent expired...

I'm sure those features are good but you won't be able to use them when you play out unless you drag your decks out with you.
