yep, in my opinion one of the best sounding (worst looking) simple subtractives.

From the looks of the thing, its nothing like logic. I was looking on the update page posted above, but didnt find any similarities really. Only 3 insert slots??? Whats up with that! I also didnt like the idea of a semi-parametric eq on every channel by default. Seems silly to stick with fixed frequencies for the treble and bass. Although in my experience its trying to replicate some hardware consoles that have this, but in the digital realm, i think its pointless. The whole point of digital is its flexability
You can have unlimited effects, there are effects holders where you can then load more fx into. There are 3 different effects holders:
Took this from the help file.
BandFX - It works by separating the input signal into three bands, containing the lower, middle and higher frequencies respectively. By separating the audio into frequency areas, you can use this effect container to apply different effects on different frequencies, to limit the frequency area on which an effect works, to combine different effects on different areas of the frequency spectrum and so on.
MultiFX - The MultiFX effect holder is not really an effect itself, but a container for up to four other effects. There are two different modes, Serial and Parallel, and different ways to use them.
StereoFX - The StereoFX effect splits a stereo signal into its left and right components. Both components can be processed individually by any Orion effect or plugin, and panned afterwards.
All up though there are a shitload of high quality fx:
Delay/Echo
2-Tap-Delay
Diffuse Delay
Filter Delay
Multi-Echo
Simple Delay
Stereo Delay
Unit Delay
X-Delay
Reverb
Impulse Response Processor
Plate Reverb
Large Hall
Chamber/Room
Dynamics
Brickwall Limiter
Compressor
Platinum Limiter
Programmable Gate
Transient Shaper
Filter
Analog 3-Band-EQ
Auto-Tracking EQ
Harmonic Resonator
Low-Cut Filter
Parametric EQ
Remove Noise
Sidechain Controlled Filter
Variable Filter + LFO
Misc.
AD-1 Analog Distortion
Chorus/Flanger
Lo-Fi / Noise
Phaser
Ring Modulator
Rotary Speaker
SSB Modulator
Stereo Pan/Width
Tube Distortion
Two-Band Distortion
Vintage Chorus
Effect Holders
BandFX
MultiFX
StereoFX
It's more like Reason / FL than logic, I don't think you could find a software studio with a quicker workflow.

It honestly does look like FL. Personally one of the downfalls of FL is the windows. Which is probably why I wouldn't try using this, especially considering it's actually more expensive than FL. I really wish Image-line would put some time into adding the ability to dock windows.

I thought it was free? a pal got me into using it by sayings it free. He use to have the DAW on a usb key and he could carry it anywhere and run it from that, neat.

According to the website it's 249 dollars, but it's on sale right now for 199. You can get the non-producer edition of FL for like 150. It could have been free at one point, but it doesn't look like it anymore. I know Reaper's demo is full functional with no time limit, and it all can fit onto a usb stick, that's really the only one I've seen that can do that aside from some of those really poor looking free ones. Although, Orion looks to be on the low end as far as requirements. I bet it could fit onto a usb stick. Considering the minimum requirements for it is like a P4 1.4 ghz processor and 512 mbs of ram. Even if your computer was like 7 years old it probably has better than that in it.

Personally, this is one of it's strengths. I detach the piano roll and playlist and put them on my right monitor, they are permanently docked there, always up. I can always see my pattern in the midi editor, and the patterns position in the playlist.
I also always have my mixer up, at the bottom of the other monitor. I've got it stretched out to show 55 simultaneous tracks and busses. I also detached the browser, but keep it in the traditional space. The step sequencer is always open and docks into the corner of the browser and the transport/menu shits.
This layout is perfect for me. I really couldn't ask for anything more. I've tried to achieve this layout with other apps, fugget about it.
Apparently you can save window layouts, but I've never needed to. This shit is perfect.

I like being able to move them, but I hate that you can't dock the windows. I guess it works really well for a 2 monitor setup, but I don't have a second monitor anymore and I've started using a laptop more often now so there are some screen size restrictions.

I feel you on that one, I use fl on a laptop, and it is not the best for that. Think the best for that is live. So much so that it was frustrating using live with a second monitor.
