I still make 2 step! They are tagged in my soundcloud. I love dark, spacious 2-step, no vocals (well, no rnb vocals...). Pangea is fuckin mint!

Sharmaji wrote:2 step, to me, is all about getting people moving in the shoulders and neck (dubstep is about getting the hips moving) ((brostep is about getting dudes to put their hands up and do the Atlanta Braves karatechop)). so really swung riddims, small-but-harsh sounds, etc.

unless yr gonna get all burial on us and literally go off the grid, use GROOVE TEMPLATES. i can't stress this enough. You need that swing, unless you're in the mood to quantize stuff by 32nd notes to get that 'skip' in your kicks (which is certainly not unheard of). Every DAW has some way to control and personalize the swing. look into that.

also, listen to the meters. Look-ka-py-py. Learn how ziggy modeliste played drums-- you don't gotta bash someone over the head with KICK SNARE KICK (it's unbelievable) to make them feel the riddim. follow that thru tower of power, to dancehall, to timbaland and you'll get a sense of how really syncopated shit can imply an intense groove without stating the obvious.

the best 2step... ok, the best dance music-- will blow up a room with just groovin' drums and some bass. it doesn't require wizardry. Rusko's "Love is Real" is really a pretty simple tune, but damn.. that groove!

jolly I believe ThinKing mentioned that chemical still had some copies left, but i know there's very few in general around anymore. glad u like!

Hahaha yhes man, and Serox is the guy to chat with about 2-step great tunez comin from him, or at least what I have so far.

Workin on a few 2-step projects, linked below on soundcloud.

Cheers.

Bits are coming:D Sending things off to EL-B so waiting on that.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

lol. Not as long as it has taken me to get a decent groove going :D

I tell you there is an art to making swung garage beats. I would say it is down to sample selection, note position, pitch and velocity. If I have a good groove down and I change any of these I can totally lose it :u: so its a combination of quite a few variable factors.

Something I forgot to mention as well is you can really benefit by listening to as wide a range of musical styles/genre's as possible, this helps to understand dynamics as in what gets people moving what beats work and what doesn't as well as textures and atmospheres.
These are equally as important as getting the swing and timing of the work right. Music is a learning curve in it's broadest sense.

It's YOUR music and you should make it how you want it to sound. Don't be bothered by trends and fashion, let your music stand up for itself.
You can never learn enough and you will learn new things all the time just by listening, then trying shit out.

Count me in.

I used to make it, and now I make it again.

I find the best groove templates can be sampling entire loops of old garage tunes, and then rebuilding with new samples, to beef it into the 21st century.

Don't go too fast with the tempo or you loose the groove. Although saying that I worked out today Joy Orbison's Hyp Mngo is 140bpm and it is still grooved to fuck. Shows he is a true talent.

Check my signature tune and my soundcloud for more tunes.

I am into the triplet thing. Been doing that even with the brostep lately  I am not sure where to go with the swing tho. I just don't know how far to go with it. You could say use your ears but it is important to me that you can mix my shit with other tunes. Closest I get to 2step is with this number here, it is just as much techno as 2step tho tbh
