true nuff
edit: with that said, it does set producers apart when they have the creative ability to come up with new sounds for every track, you know?
both of you are right. On the Patch though if its working for them why stop its not like it sounds like shit. if your getting bored of it give it a week break then listen to it again you might hear something you didnt last time.

They have a sound that sells so I dont blame them for capotolizing on it. You could be next weeks has beens you never know. Those guys have the talent to come up with something fresh imo, just wait and see. I am more bothered that I am hearing other artiists copy them but it is natural at the same time.

DZ is in the same camp aint he? completely different than them.
I enjoy their shit. as far as aggressive dubstep goes I'm becoming very picky...and their shit is more original than a lot of the other aggressive shit.
at the same time...while I do enjoy their music, I'm not their biggest fans like "OMG NEW EXCISION TUNE PURE FILTH OMFG!!!"...so sometimes I can't tell the difference between the two.
and plus....a lot of Coki tunes vibe of similar sounds....Joker tunes as well...etc etc etc. no one complains.

that is their style... they aren't really "recycling", but rather just using the same 1/8T wobbles, etc, but with slightly different timbre/FX. their style absolutely kills it on a loud system, so i hope they keep doing it. i've also noticed that over the past year, the quality of their tunes has increased about 10 fold.

learning to recycle = advancement in your productions
as ABZ was saying, why not a thread about mala recycling? coki? untold? 2562? MARTYN? vvv? son on and so forth, and with them it's just as obvious

A good analogy is music generally. A lot of bands use guitars, trumpets and so on, nobody ever complains about that.
When you hear a track with a flute you don't go "oh, this motherfucker used the flute again, lazy bastard". So what really matters is the writing and the response.
I guess the audience can eventually get tired of these sounds. Producers tend to overanalyze music and get tired of certain trends quicker than the average listener.
I, too like Matt, am interested to hear what Datsik has to say about this one.
But you can't blame anyone for recycling sounds. I do it a lot too! Especially with drums (mostly hi hats and percs).
Cheers,
Jason

Its very different though. With a band there are many more variables;
it can be swung or straight,
different tempos (Datsik and excision only go around the 140 mark),
double or half time,
minor or major (dubstep is almost exclusively minor)
and the fucking snare with brostep is 99 percent on the fucking the 3rd beat of the bar,
plus when you have a synth, where you can make any sound, and are not limited in the same way that a guitar and an amp limits you (despite these limitations did not stop hendrix and homies coming up with proper creative sounds) its a fucking joke if you are not pushing what you have got.
forgot wot i was trying to say

Not certain but I think its just massive. I saw someone explain how to do it on the grid and the example they uploaded was very convincing.

I somewhere read Datsik saying it was Massive, but I don't quite believe that ha.
Who cares what it is, it sounds insane and it set a new limit for "filth".

Not to say that any of these producers are lame, they're amazing at what they do... But I do have a slight bitch regarding this topic...
I now have to explain what sort of Dubstep I make...
Typical conversation -
Prospect customer:
What sort of music do you make?
Me:
Dubstep.
Prospect customer:
Sick bruv, I love that filthy shit wop wop wop wlaaarrrr. Datsik is amazing.
Me:
Nah, I don't really make that sort of Dubstep mate... I tend to take influence from more soulful dance tracks like 2 step garage, house and trance, stuff like that.
Prospect customer:
Oh, you should make filthy stuff mate.
It's become quite hard to target my music to a 'Dubstep' audience now because they all expect everything to be this heavy, messy, 'filthy' stuff...

sup peeps!..
I hear what u guys are sayin...
i just wanted to give u guys a little perspective.. i was posting my dubs in the dubs section no more than a year ago.. i found a sound that quickly got hype and sounded badass on a big system.. so i jumped on it. It was totally the right thing to do. I had no choice in which order my tunes came out.. so it seemd like every new tune that came out was my latest when in reality my newer ones had come out first.. i have been making different shit (using different patches, making different basslines) for a few months now, but it will probs be a few more months till u guys hear it.. just wanted to let u guys know that i do hear where ur comin from, and I've been doing a lot of other shit to try and get away from it..
and the one dudes right.. this is nothing new, all producers generally have their own sound.. as do we.. rusko sounds like rusko, bar 9 sounds like bar 9, joker sounds like joker, and datsik sounds like datsik
lately i have been making different things, like half time dnb, more hiphop influenced dubstep and tryin to get more melodical.. i give HUGE respect to the producers who are hella melodical, and im trying to get that aspect dialed in my productions.
anyways thought id share my thoughts on this shittt

ez all,
the man is pretty much right, everyone has their own sounds. when you strike gold, its not so much a matter of "OMG MAKE NEW SOUNDS ALL THE TIME" as digging out that gold patch till there's not much left, and then you go and sift around till you find another one. lets all stop and think hard for a second, about what the end goal of a career in production?
to be successful, to make something people like, and get gigantic shows for loads of people. those two have done that to an almost unheard of extent, not to mention becoming icons in the industry. something else to consider, is simply that why would you care if one tune has the same ish sounds as the one before it anyways? do you play four datsik songs in a row? the sound changes just as the artist changes.
really, who are any of us to say "recycling is bad";
look at the numbers. those two have Geniusly built their careers up to this point, theyre obviously doing something right, why criticize it?
its not as though they're some unheard-of blokes sitting in their basement being told "ez now, maybe if you change your sound people will like it? maybe if you do things differently youll get signed and maybe put a track or two out?"
and really, who is a producer trying to impress? the fans.
need we ask, "hey fans, are you impressed?"
just a thought.
