That's exactly what I mean. It's one of those things that I'll never understand I guess. It's like people have forgotten how to be funny.

Pretty much. Well, in most cases it's people desperately trying too hard.

Every single genre has the same problem. For every creative tune out there will be a dozen copycats, just need to wade through the muck and hold onto what's good and true. It sucks when people are willing to throw the baby out with the bathwater cause bunch of people are making unoriginal formulaic tunes, cause there's always people making unoriginal formulaic tunes its how music functions.

one year ago me and my mates (we're all from 16-18) used to listen to the stereotypical dubstep and we used to get nuts on rusko
But like half a year ago i came to realise that it's all bs and tatata..
Anyways i think i have persuaded half of my dubstepfriends to listen and play stuff they and only they like, and taught them about cliché's in dubstep. Now we're all listening scuba, shackleton, synkro, martyn, distance, toastyboy, mount kimbie, and much much more very intelligent and different producers.
Soon we'll be organising some nights as wel. Top of the row soundsystem + beginning DJ's (mainly my mates and me) who play out good stuff. We hope to reach as many people -who take music serious- as possible and also educate random people what good music is all about. (i've never ever heard one scuba track in my city which is a fucking shame)
But future's looking pretty good

every producer should be listening to every single type of music out there. Everything. Even French Chanson yes. (Jaques Brel <3<3)
Learn about the basics about music. Producing is not just knowing how to EQ, compress and mix down but also learning, reading about compositions, persussion, melodies, moods and many other 'basic' things in music. That way a producer will develop a lot of knowledge, and he starts to learn all the possibilities in music.
And on top of that, the
most important thing for a producer (IMO) is that he will develop
his own taste and vision in music.
Once you've gotten to that point (it takes a lot of listening/learning decent music) you are ready to make some interesting and innovating, non-stereotypical, non-clichée music.

Pseudonyms ending in a or ah in place of er.
That being said, I'm changing my own pseudonym to Svpreme FiendAH.

sorry if this is a rehash of an old discussion ...
shortly after i posted this i came across some cool roots influenced tunes which uplifted me a bit.
just a bit tired of seeing the tunes getting support as those with the biggest bass, the most over the top edits, edgiest synths ... all this ego.
go for the soul is all i am asking.

yeah, at the end of the day if you are producing for some else to like what you do you are probably gonna miss the mark, deep or otherwise.
not to mention get your feathers all fluffed when the almighty dubstep forum doesn't go apeshit for your new tune.
