The answer is simple...dubstep is awesome. Most people who hear it on a system are converted. In terms of quickly, its been around for quite some time now and been growing steadily for years. There are going to be a few crossover tracks that possibly make it onto mainstream radio (i doubt it will be soon in Australia, but I cant say for the rest of the world), that cant be helped. However the people who really appreciate the music will continue to contribute to the scene by buying records, making tracks, learning to spin, educating people about this brilliant genre of music and continue to sing its praises, while the electro kids will gern their tits of at festivals to whichever dubstep dj the promoters have put on, and look like retards when they turn around and realise they have no fucking clue how to lose their shit to a dubstep tune.

Meanwhile the true fans are gunna be down at FWD, DMZ, Void (in sydney), DubWar and which ever other night your city has, enjoying the music.

It's because of all the shitty remixes of popular songs, i blame mt eden etc.. I hope it doesn't become mainstream. Because the sound is still developing.

What I'd like to know is: why are so many breakcore producers making dubstep now (myself included)?

It was only a matter of time before it started snowballing in popularity. The poly-rhythmic options of Dubstep's tempo are what intrigued me - so many different ways to dance to it and to interpret a song. It's got bouncy swinging rhythms mixed with a rolling driven pulsating form that is irresistible- especially over a proper soundsystem.

Since it draws from so many roots, it's much more accessible than initially meets the eye/ear. But once it does set in, it's rather addicting.

A couple of weeks ago I was at a friends house having some drinks and I put on a sukh kight track, know one knew what it was and when some one asked I said it was dubstep and they were all like okay wtf ... now these same friends all went to see Mt Eden at FTM last week at Zen and are all into "Filthy Dubstep" now ... your point illustrated perfectly.

last friday was a dubstep show in a big place her ein bern... a lot of people coming, who did not know anything bout dubstep. just dropped by... they were fascinated of the bass... really... they felt that this was something else. something different.

was good feeling to see people going mental on sub.

I can only talk on behalf of Denmark, but... Ya that sums it up i'm affraid.
It's cool to be underground, to discover whats new and such. And dubstep was just laying there ready to be picked up..
Plus everybody can dance to dubstep?

to be honest, all I have seen recently within people who i speak to and mix with, if anything it's declined in popularity, and continues to, rapidly.

this, for the mainstream popularity at least.

the point about the internet etc i think is totally spot on for the development of the genre, and that rise in popularity alerted mainstream artists, who then get these remixes which then alerts the mainstream public. that said, a large proportion of the 'mainstream public' i'm talking about won't have looked any deeper than the big remixes and maybe fabriclive 37.

would it be true to say that the heavy half step has a big cross over in the USA etc.. with metal heads? much as how DNB did.
like its dance music that its "ok to like"

also, as the growth outside of the uk has spun out of control, in london at least dubstep is beginning to lose popularity over the past year imo.
