Keep thinking that Fun Boy Three's "Lunatics are taking over the asylum" was a sequel to that tune. Liked the stuff Terry Hall did with Tricky on the Nearly God album, really spooked out shit.
And don't forget the Beat, they had some corking tunes - Mirror in the Bathroom, Tears of a Clown, Can't get Used to Losing You, Twist and Crawl, etc.
Not 2 Tone in the slightest, but early Police is still worth a listen. "Beds too big without you" is a particular fave.
Yeah, Lunatics is a great track. Funboy Three are another favourite - The Telephone Rings is possibly my fave of theirs.
Have you heard 'The Lunacy Legacy' stripped down vocal version of Luncatics? Sounds really spooky. Ideal pickings for sampling.
The Beat, aye. And the Selecter. Couldn't get into The Police, or 'Sting' as they're now known...

Yeah, I think Lunatics is ripe for a dubstep re-rub, would love to hear the Legacy version if you've got a clip to post - I think they may have been a big hit with Tricky as I can hear those downtuned percussives and wierd half melodies in a lot of his stuff.
Sting solo is fuckin gash, but I still think the early Police stuff when it was good was great. Probably got a lot to do with Stewart Copeland's drumming and Andy Summers guitar textures rather than Sting's inability to sing consonants. Walking on the Moon, Roxanne, Message in a Bottle are all still cool tunes in my book.
But Sting should go and fuck himself tantrically for say 15 hours and then go and see his mate Plateface from the amazon and write some pseudo-jazz drivel.

Glad the selecter have been mentioned, they never get enough credit, Pauline Black is a fox. Two tone and the ska revival was the business. So much amazing homegrown talent with awesome style.

Yeah, but it's a fairly distinctive chord played on a fairly distinctive instrument in a tune that has quite a similar atmosphere. And Kode isn't exactly a stranger to referentiality and invoking spirits...
