I played 2 rusko tunes at outlook last night in a set which contained 38 tracks.

I'm just stating facts. I don't expect everyone to enjoy my sets when dubstep is such a diverse sound. I just play what I feel is going to work best on the night and judging by the audience it went down pretty well last night.

I wasn't about to rinse Joker out when he's on after me. I thought I'd play some stuff he wasn't looking to drop so left out anything on that tip from my set.

Anyway I aint on here to defend myself I have no problems with the music I play in my own sets, thats why I play what I do. I just wanted to state a fact that "too many rusko tunes" was a bullshit statement when each of the 2 rusko tracks I played probably only played out of the speakers for a maximum of 50 seconds each.

I played for 50 minutes. 1 minute and 40 seconds of one artist is not too much. (awaits sarcastic dickhead comments from people saying 1 minute 40 seconds of Rusko is too much).

I missed the majority of Joker's set but its hard for him not to smack it with all his own productions there at his fingertips right now. I'm sure he tore it down like he always does!
I've been following ur radio shows and shit for a while and last night was a lot more aggy than I and a bunch of others expected.

A lot of DJs last night played a lot of the samey stuff - and very very few dubstep artists really had the balls to stand out and played something they wanted to that represented them (which is probably why they was booked) rather than doing something similar to the previous few DJ's on the same stage and in other rooms too.

Generally boring, shame I had to stay there so long before I had a good time. Dynamite smacked it though.

I fucking despise clownstep so in order to avoid it I do not attend events, listen to tracks, or listen to mixes by clownstep artists. If artists I once liked start playing music I don't enjoy, I tend to stop listening to them.
this isn't an excuse any more, you simply can't get away from this style.

I hope it does, it really sucks especially here in the states because this stuff is really all that is ever played... Big names play in big cities, and if you don't want to go to NYC Miami Chicago or LA to see a show, you're pretty much left with nothing but this noise.

This noise is just becoming big because all the people who jumped onto dubstep heard it because their first tune was Sweet Shop or Datsik or something, and they don't want to delve into the earlier sound, and just stay on the hype side of things. Personally, I don't have a problem with a dj playing this stuff, as long as it's not out of tune shit :o - borgore I'm looking at you. , I have a lot of respect for people like datsik in this way because his tunes are dark and melodic whilst heavy, which is much better than the people who will just make shitty robotic midrange noises and record themselves vomiting to try and out-dirt everyone else. People like Trolley Snatcha and Subscape are untouchable in my eyes - their stuff sounds melodic and interesting, whilst still keeping the 'filth' element, big respect for those guys!

However, a full set of mid-range wobble is too much!! Many of the DJ's need to start switching it up, play some cyrus, distance, joker, then mix in a datsik or flux track, maybe 2 or more, switch to some dark stuff again! Not only does this mean people in the crowd get downtime to stop moshing about so annoyingly and chill out, but it makes the sets more exciting and varied, and means you stand out among all the other DJ's who will load up 30 funtcase, cookie and bar 9 tracks for their entire set  .

Although this filthy comment banter shit on youtube needs to stop NOW :u: .

i respect funtcase and datsik a whole lot and yes im from the states but shit ive only seen rusko like 5 times and plastician and both of them have to be some of the greats and guess what i haven't heard a single funtcase song played by either of them except for maybe rusko once or twice. dont hate the shit is just as good as the dubstep before it but i can always agree with a variety. i really dont want to hear craziness the whole set cause that shit is too powerful and ha and ill end up losin touch with reality quick.

djs need to keep a variety in their set so when they do drop the bangers they standout a lot more.

all you fuckers talkin shit about plastician and datsik and funtcase can fuck off till you can make some shit of your own
ha try this solution if too many djs playin shit you dont like fuckin dj yourself then you'll never hear a bad show since ya made it ya dig?

last comment im gettin tired of yall stnuc hatin on us in the states watch how big you talk yourself up cause no place but the states can have as much hip hop influence in the scene as us and im workin on that shit as each day goes by...

I once heard a 1 hour dubstep set that pretty much consisted entirely of Datsik tunes.
:(
Was it a Datsik Mix?

Surely if you didn't like it you would of just turned it off.

People have gota face that dubsteps gonna branch off into extreme areas. No1s gonna stop it.
It was a DJ at local venue. I only stayed because I hoped he would switch it up at some point. He was the only Dubstep DJ on at the night. :(

I personally think playing to the crowd can only go so far and has to stop at some stage..

I mean how much does a dj need to pander to people?

what if the people just want remixes of the top 40 because they want songs they know?

at the end of the day a dj is there to educate as well as play a set people want to hear..

It seems though a lot more of the newer dubstep fans djing will happily just play awful music because its what students and silly girls ask for..

Me?

I play the whole spectrum of styles but theres no way i'd play music i despise....surely playing akira kiteshi/pixel fist/bar 9/reso is better than playing borgore/datsik (he is better than the other 3 lol)/mt eden/cookie monsta?

personally playing a medley of coki smashers works better than playing the aforementioned brostep massive...

People pander too much....if nobody broke ranks in dubstep it wouldnt have become so widespread...

and to clarify im not havingn a go at plastician or n-type...they are the best hype djs in the business and play other stuff as well...the whole circus thing though... :(

THIS. so much THIS.

Plastician & Nomad is the best thing on Radio since John Peel. :z:

Oh yeah, and about over-wobble or whatever.. There's always a market for it. But if you don't like it, you don't play it. Simple. But then again, DJs just aim to strike a balance between pleasing the crowd and playing what they want to play. And some tnuc will always diss 'em either way. I would love to play Joy Orbison and 2step in my sets here, but the crowd expect Jump Up.. so it ends up being about 90/10%. You do what you can.

there's a whole lot of money in dubstep now. people living the dj life, and driving nice cars because of the sound. this is obviously great for the originators, the 15-20 names that were there from day one and put in all the early graft. the problem is it creates a vacuum effect, where other upcoming dj's and producers..... see producer XYZ getting big bookings, festival dates, big remixing jobs...and figure to themselves...i too can live the good life if i start using the same sound palette. this means that 2 or 3 producers that originated one palette of sound, get badly copied by 500-1000 others all trying to fly around the world too. abrasive tunes have always been around. the problem in 2010, is that this noise is so devoid of progression, that you can't tell noise track #1 from noise track #275.

please, label heads....stand up for quality instead of quantity.

I play what I want in every set, if promoters feel I'm doing the right thing that's why they book me. I know some tunes I play will go off more than others but that doesn't mean I'm only gonna play those beats.

A good set has ups and downs, staying at a constant level wether it's noise or just deep stuff is boring.

PROGRESSION IS KEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
