i take it you're refering to me. if you read the thread, i wasn't schooling him... it was a misunderstanding. my reply with the wikipedia links was just a general output in case anyone read this... pistonbreaths first reply in the thread just made me think about the subject and i'm only trying to contribute because i'm also sick of people calling dubstep, dub.

anyways, why are there so many cry babies on here?

and if it means anything, it took me at least a year to really care and want to be on this forum...

i mean who even cares how long you're on dsf?? i'm 28 and have enough knowledge to hold a conversation in enough topics...

dubstep came from dub versions of garage and other styles, it's not like it was just reggae with dub versions, although dub did come from jamaican producers and reggae...

dubstep is not dub/reggae, or a dub version of anything, please call it dubstep.

i'm not slating anyone and i'm not a pro cackstep campaigner it just came across my mind, and i havent just come across dubstep in the last year or so i've been around a fair bit to know

its just i got into a debate with somone who uses "dub" all the time and was goin on about it, and seemed kinda pissed off that i correct people who call it dub. but i was just thinking, many nights use the word "dub", and skream used it in that tune (and i know skream is has a lot of dubby tunes), also with labels like dub police and shit you can understand why people do call it that, but on the other hand they should also do their research i guess. id ont really know where im going with it im kinda shit at getting stuff out my head but i was just thinking about it

alright then, i see where you're coming from. if you ask me, that's a side affect of gimmicks and generic labeling.

big promoter out here just told me he's going to have his flyer for the summer patio thing we do say house, techno, electro, dub... and his explanation was that using dub means we can play dub and dubstep and get away with it...

You like it or you don't. Not that big of a deal if somebody feels like shortening "dubstep" to "dub" which is the intent they have in mind I'm sure.

As to the original post...this is definitely how this forum goes. DatsiK or another producer along those lines could put in 20 hours on a tune with ace production quality. Then somebody like Skream could spend 20 minutes whipping up some wobble and drums and people would go apeshit over it. Skream makes good music and a lot of people that get slated do as well...It's just one of these names that people constantly bitch over (datsik, borgore, funtcase, etc.) could make a good track and get called "shit" for it while somebody who's had a big name for a while can make something exactly the same and get praised for it.

I say you stop paying attention to artist names and just decide whether or not you like the music based on the individual songs. There are some artists that I absolutely can't stand 95% of their music...but there will be ONE track from them that ends up being my favorite song for weeks at a time.

truth is, having a well established name is everything in the music industry.. gives u a freedom pass to churn out any old shit and ull still get props

Yeah, that's it for me as well.

Not mad about his wobble tunes (although they work well when he's dropping them fairly sparingly in a DJ set) but he just keeps pushing stuff in so many different directions. Including some of his really dark and hard stuff - he's one of the only people out there who can make really ravey big room tunes that aren't just formulaic wobble.

Just wondering...do people genuinely associate your registration date on DSF with how involved in/knowledgeable you are with dubstep?

Can't speak for Claw but I have not seen many posts by him over the years that were totally serious. To be honest I don't take much that is posted on the internet as serious. If you do your head might explode.
