If you are in a commercial venue I can only suggest one thing, its try and keep the event female friendly. If you can win over the girls promoting, the guys will come.

If its more of an underground club, then you have more leeway.

I'm studying in a international school. I have introduced dubstep to a few people but it's not really popular! Everyone is into hiphop! But I'm trying my best... So far, only one person is SUPER interested (that's not me) -_-. SOOO SAD! Such a pity! Maybe if I bring my friends to this gig, they'll like it! :D

WOW! Great to see this thread. I lived in Manila last year for about 4 months. Got to meet alot of really cool people who are into DnB. Nomad Tech is doin it big out there. Try to collab with them is possible. I never met Red-I but I guess he does a Dubstep night out there. I'm guessing you already know these people but If not, get to know em. I played a DnB set there in Makati. Very small turn out. There was about 20 people. Everyone one loved the music. I even dropped a couple dubstep tunes. My suggestion would be to have a Dubstep night at a cheap bar. Here in Albuquerque our crowds loves cheap drinks! LOL. They will not go to a fancy place and buy $7 beer. I could go on and on about this but my main suggestions are to make sure you have a GREAT sound system, cheap beer and a good dancefloor. Good luck my friend. PM me if you need anything!

haha, sweet... Ok I've always refused to join forum coz I hate them, but i thought since I typed Dubstep+Manila into google and this thread came up id add my addition to it..

Dubstep can be promoted ANYWHERE it jsut needs to be done in the right way.. for fuck sake you can promote a pile of shite as art and people will like it, if you do it right!

I'm doing it in Aberdeen & Edinburgh, Scotland right now, but am in Manila for a few months.. Only thing, I'm staying in my parents house, and since I'm under their roof, im under their strict ass fucking rules. Which means no clubbing! Unfortunate but true..

I can help in other ways tho, flyers and visuals.. The folk I'm promoting in Scotland are Dubpressure from Brighton. A really heavy weight night with a lot of contacts. For example I'm getting Mala for Aberdeen and the full Digital Mystikz in Edinburgh in Jan when I'm back over there! So once a scene is established, I can get you DJ's, like Goth Trad Mala and any British DJ you fancy! If you can pay for it that is!

Though my suggestions, like someone said nice and small is the way forward. When I was speaking to Mala (who pretty much made dubstep what it is) he said you never want a big venue even if it is full... Vibe isnt as good in a full 400-500 cap venue than the vibe in a 100-200 venue. Basically, that way you get more people who LOVE the music rather than just fuckin fake ass scene hunters!

In Dubstep, no one realises it at first because you usually hear it wrong, but DO NOT try and push a scene with your average joes system. You need something with BASSS and LOTS of it! dNb & jungle is simple enough coz its punchy and regardless of the bad system it can sound good. but dubstep, unless you can literally feel the bass shake your body from head to toe, then you wont get anywhere promoting it! Where do you think Dub came from? The old rastas in Jamaica with their 40-50K soundsytems on the beach plaing heaps of bassy dub. Then the british mmerged it with 4x4 stuff and the step came about and Dubstep was born..

The thing with Dubstep is that everyone can love it. Its such a wide ranging sound! Look at the Americans, Datsik for example who's added that stereotypical American rNb nd hip hop sound which they love, and promoted that way.. he's funnily not to big in southern britain as with excision, but thats coz their sound is waay dfferent!

I would say start practicisn mixing your typical cheese crap that i hate, but everyone here loves, with some very similar sounding dub, and sooner than later, everyone will develop to the sounds! That's how everything starts, small, and with enough patience, it will grow! Either that, or everyone loves their techno & house over here... If you want Ill chuck you over A HEAP of artists to listen to to give you ideas.

techno side, listen to vex'd or surgeon he's been getting well into his dubstep. Next time he's over this end of the world, grab him in Manila, fuck tiesto, get Surgeon, he's a fucking good DJ, amazing techno prob one of the best in Britain at it, and he is now merging into dubstep! Perfect way!

Or on the housey-dub side, Applepips recording, with Appleblim, Ramadanman, Shackleton (more tribaly stuff) these are classy ass artists that the higher class will apreciate because it is sexy music!

My friend is a Dub-Techno DJ because the sound works soo fucking well! I can get him to fly over next time I come to visit my parents! Lots of ways to do this mate, just do it right..

Send us an email if you want help im here for another month or so! Have to go back to get this Digital Mystikz tour sorted! email is sbeckett@live.co.uk

Hey I'm from manila and totally love dubstep. I sometimes hang at B side in Makati if they have dubstep music on for the night (Usually during Saturdays, its not regular) I would love to come if you have gigs/parties that would set up with dubstep music since a few bars here play them. And it sucks!
