Really? You are one of the on to it forum members. Do you use it all the time? I always thought it was a sort of last resort can't quite everything in its own zones technique (or a creative one which I use heavily on pads/atmosphere/vocals etc). But I guess a bit of subtle side chaining on the sub/kick might make them both stand out a little. Will try it out.FSTZ wrote:yeah

Sidechaining can be very useful, and it can also be used as a cool effect in order to achieve a desired sound...but in this situation it seems like it would mask the problem more than it would solve it. I would spend a bit of time getting to terms with the relationship between the EQ/Levels of your sub bass and kick, that way you would truly have the clarity and punch that I think you're after.

Some kicks keep their punch when you hipass, some just go all floppy... Depends what notes your sub is too, if it's really low and doesn't come up, you could hipass a bit lower on the kick. If the sub is very dynamic, side chain could be the answer.

i used to sidechain alot when i was fucking with it to learn the technique but now i do not use it, at all. but after FSTZ comment and this im sold. gotta start using it again.
