sofa_king wrote:i don't know how to comment here without sounding sarcastic but... i honestly heard Mt. Eden for the first time YESTERDAY (been listening to dubstep for years but I live in US, maybe it makes a diff?). I can't seem to see why people hate him so much, except as a backlash against his fans who aren't "real" dubstep fans? his tunes seem all right to me, and not dramatically more "mainstream" than a lot of other respected producers.
What's the big deal?
Is dubstep supposed to be like punk music, where everyone turns against it once it gains some mainstream popularity? Seems kinda sad to me. Should we ban anyone from using LFO at 140bpm unless they're broke or from Croydon or something?
Anyway, maybe it's more annoying in the UK but I never really hear much about this guy except other people bitching about his popularity. Any help?
basically i can't stand his music, adding flanger, kick/snare pattern and wobbly bassline with no bass doesn't make anti-war dub any better.
i don't like when people like shit stuff just because other people do. but i guess it's everywhere. commercialized pop-star bullshit and all that
edit: and i hate him cause of the hide 'n seek remix. Stealing other people's work and claming it as your own one is fucked up

yeah i see that a lot of his tunes are just like good vocals with a crappy drum beat and slow wobble stuck under 'em. are these comments for real though? found them on:

Your a miracle, a legend, sent from God to bring good music on earth.
How can you do it?
Is this guy big in the UK? I honestly never hear about him over here. I think dubstep is much more mainstream accepted in the UK anyway though.

Ive never heard anyone play Mt Eden at a show, well I only know of Sierra Leone and some shitty remixes so maybe I have but hes really only popular on youtube. he has no official remixes or releases out, I've never heard him on any radio station and people I know dont know who he is. So I dont see how he can have so many views, he probably uses bots to jack up his view count

just fuck off.
mods, can you get someone to write a script that automatically locks/deletes threads with 'Mt Eden' in the subject or body? maybe even extend it to 'Bro-', 'wobble' and 'vinyl vs. digital'

as someone with a early join date and a semi healthy post count, i think i can safely make the call that mt eden is now "dope", simply for the sake of the DSF, and we can let the healing process begin

i hate to fuel these kind of threads, BUT, I dunno how many of you know what happened to Sierra Leone on youtube;
copyright infringement! he was forced to remove the video hahaha, i guess he's in the process of getting the samples he ripped cleared and trying to get the tune put on iTunes. go figure. heh.

heard sierra leone got taken down from youtube because of a copywrite claim on the artwork he put in the video not the sample(s) in the actual track itself
appearently his production has moved forward in leaps and bounds, new stuff is meant to be very different from the tracks uploaded to youtube. (so maybe the youtube kids won't like it anymore

)
Mixing needs to be worked on aswell, mate of mine told me people were walking out during their set at a gig called stompt over these parts recently.
I've never seen 'em play out but heard its more just playing tunes rather than actually mixing them =/
far far far far away
