been really getting deep into serato lately..
for a long time I just sorta treated in like a virtual bag of records.
last few months though I've been messing with the cue points / loop features quite a bit.
fuck me, adds a whole new dynamic to mixing.. it's pure party biz.
Not sure if it's a bad thing or not.. but discovering some of serato's advanced features has really got be questioning buying vinyl at all anymore.
The program has really taken djing to another level.
Like parson said, beat matching is a cakewalk...

i learned how to beatmatch in like an hour
if i get too intoxicated i'll have some shaky mixes for sure but i'll drive a lil shaky if i did that while too intoxicated
i do like mixing vinyl though. its tactile and fun. i got me a new macbook and wanna get torq runnin on it.
might do ableton in the meantime

Torq is good value for money. Runs well on macbook and macbookpro. It's well fun to just buss up a little mix without connecting to deckle as well. Heard good things about Numark Cue as well but not sure if their gonna release a mac version yet.Parson wrote:i got me a new macbook and wanna get torq runnin on it.
I just love the feel of mixing with vinyl, there's somethin raw about it and I like to see the vinyl as well rather than just a program on a monitor. I have no problem with others mixing in that way though as a good friend of mine mixes usin his lap top and an mp3 deck/mixer thing.
As for beat matchin, I love doin it so much and I still go a bit sketchy on a bad day but I get a thrill out of being able to do somethin that a lot of other people don't know the 1st thing about doin. Quite a lot of peeps I know have tried mixin quite a few times and just can't coz they don't have the mind for it (either that or they're doin it to make me feel better

they can both be used just as lazily or unimaginatively.
no software is inherently bad or good. it's just how well someone uses it.
it's all about the creativity of the dj themselves. i have been djing on decks for 12 years, and i have also been using ableton lately for dubstep. my djing experience on decks informs how i play with ableton. i don't wanna just sit back and let it be easy. i want to take advantage of the technology and make sets even MORE interesting because i have the tools to do so. and after 12 years, i don't have anything to prove to anyone as far as beatmatching goes. can do it, done it, and continue to do it.
i have also seen multiple ableton "live" sets, where people had set tunes up in the arrange section and then just tweak knobs on the controller. *yawn* boring. lame. and many other adjectives...
you either push for newer, fresher ways to present the music you dig. or you don't. and the tools you use are just that. tools.
p.s. frankly, there are plenty of big name djs of all genres who i would probably rather hear use ableton or traktor because their beatmatching sucks ass.
Here, have a free tune:

We use serato with Dubs & records but its seems a lot of people seem to think you can sync this.....Trust me thats not the case!
I'm moving FWD, cant stop the digital age imho, embrace it! Does not mean I dont buy records or get duns cut but I get about 5-10 tracks a week n I'll play 3-4 so how else do I do it unless I but a record presser...
