LOL to be sure, & who hasn't. Its now etched in the back of everyones mind when they go to reach for a vocal sample... Pretty much influenced an entire generation of musicians in someway or another...

Beyond those vocals are textural and spacial influences as well, at least i my ear.
Just glad that people can now start using what they've learned from B without the mark of Cain being put on their foreheads.

Re: James Blake has done it again
Well, Burial has a REALLY unique sound. If the Burial copycats were making music as original as James Blake from the beginning, I don't think anybody would be criticising them to be honest.
Re: James Blake has done it again
I don't want to start a shit storm of hate in this thread of love (so please hold it if you wanna hate or pm at least), but I don't think JB's stuff is all that original. It is definitely good and he's got a fairly unique voice. But I don't see this as all that ground breaking. Just very very good.

Re: James Blake has done it again
sounds like it's being driven to tape really hard or something in an analog chain adding to it i think. or he's just using a white noise oscillator.upstateface wrote:Amazing EP. But all the white noise, thats's supposed to be there right?
Re: James Blake has done it again
Urgh, all that white noise masks everything. It's like the song's got sunglasses and I can't see it's eyes.
Listen to some prefuse, four tet with a little of madlib from 2000/2001. This stuff is ten years old already. Just because you're hearing the sound for the first time doesn't make the sound original.
Not to diminish this stuff in any way. Truly amazing stuff.

Agree, he's married a few very distinct styles of electronic music in a way that make sense.nowaysj wrote:Urgh, all that white noise masks everything. It's like the song's got sunglasses and I can't see it's eyes.

And does it so well. The shit changes up too fast for me, but maybe I'm just an old foggie.Pedro Sánchez wrote:Agree, he's married a few very distinct styles of electronic music in a way that make sense.

Ok, so this is the second time you've come in and said James Blake isn't original. Can you recommend some stuff that sounds like James Blake then? I haven't heard anything from Prefuse, Four Tet, and Madlib that sound close enough that I would call James Blake's stuff unoriginal, and I own a good amount of their work.
Re: James Blake has done it again
Not saying that he is unoriginal. Just saying that his stuff isn't totally new, it appears to be the combination of a few influences that have been around for a decade. A natural progression of style, but not a major leap in creativity or form.

Four Tet, I can see what you mean but not that similiar. Madlib, definitely not imo unless you can post some examples?nowaysj wrote:Urgh, all that white noise masks everything. It's like the song's got sunglasses and I can't see it's eyes.
