Ditch the rucksack for a jetpack. If you find yourself surrounded, leave your attackers in a ring of smoke as you rocket to 300 feet of altitude. Makes the trip home all that more speedy and enjoyable.

I can imagine that future. I want that future to exist. I want the whole planet to buzz like a hive.

Yeah - dickish statement.. but the fact is, after a year or two of taking late night trains home at 4am after gigs I said "fuck it" and started taking taxis home as well.

I felt that it was silly not to use some of the money I made to have a safe & FAST journey home. In the early days I had more than one disaster, like the time I fell asleep on the train and woke up in Brooklyn instead of Queens (well - that was only partially my fault. the bartender really liked my set and gave me a PINT of Scotch). I was lucky I wasn't robbed - but my good old, shitty-looking bag filled with clothes looked too useless to steal. Regardless - it is never fun to wake up in the wrong borough when you have to be at work in a few hours.

Besides, even for the gigs where I didn't make much money, I usually still justified the cost by realizing that what I saved in free drinks usually paid for most of the cost of the taxi anyway.

If your worried about getting your laptop/gear robbed then a taxi aint a bad idea is it.

Fuck black cabs though, much cheaper deals to be had from the private hire companies.
