i get less gigs year-on-year too.
i'm on course to release about 40 - 50 tracks this year under various names, including 2 albums. if that doesn't start getting me some gigs i don't know what will!

Nothing, add in the hardware and software I've bought and I'm somewhere near the minus thousand pound mark.

One good thing about today is that you don't have to spend as much on performance costs. 5/10 dubplates a week would kill ya right now. Or even just vinyl.ResetTheAtari wrote:You have to gig a fair bit to make a living from music these days, game has changed.setspeed wrote:every year i release more tunes than the year before, and make less money than the year before

Depends how you view it really. If you see it as a hobby and something you enjoy doing on a daily basis then its definitely a lot more rewarding and productive than spending the same on a PS3 and a shit ton of games which can also be seen as £800 down. With music there is always the opportunity of going on to bigger and better things down the line.
We buy software/hardware for the love of doing it in the same way someone who loves playing golf pays over a Grand for a decent set of clubs and a membership at a local course
