i don't think MC's are even necessary. i don't think they should even have MC's for dubstep sets, it's usually you hear it over drum n bass. MC's are meant to get the crowd pumped up and to keep the boring parts, less boring. but if the whole set is crazy energetic music with no boring parts, the MC just needs to leave. i feel they always ruin the music. i've heard some really good MC's and it didn't ruin the music, but it's usually pretty bad.

i saw a skream set where the guy wouldn't shut the fuck up the entire time. it was like he thought he would get fired if he stopped talking for 5 seconds. he was trying to get the whole crowd to sing to in for the kill and he ended up ruining the whole song

I don't enjoy MC's over dubstep, I can even say that i hate MC's in general, even in dnb. Don't kill me for saying this, but there was actually a moment when it pissed me off at a DMZ show. And if THAT happens, then I guess it means I really hate any form of live blabbering over perfectly enjoyable tracks.

I know man. Excision and Rusko murdered the beach. I liked Datsik too though. He got a shitty time slot because he replaced Trolley Snatcha's spot.


As for the MC business, I don't mind MCs at all if they're any good. But honestly there is no reason to have a MC over anything like Excision or Datsik. Their music is constantly progressing and changing. Theres no need for filler. I think Excision and Datsik realize this so they work together to minimize the blabber but still incorporate some hype to the crowd here and there. Thats why the MC that was actually doing a really good job during Rusko upped and left when Rusko started owning the audience. He wasn't needed anymore. Now thats a good MC.

I told him if he wants to big it up in the breakdowns, that's cool. Don't say anything once the tune has dropped, and definitely, do not ever rap. He agreed to this, we let him on, he didn't listen, I unplugged him. We told him again and gave him one more chance, he did alright for a couple tunes and then was back to rapping, I unplugged him again, he got embarrassed or something cuz he went aggro as fuck on me and smacked my ass twice (wtf?) and "do you know who i am" etc etc. We were literally seconds away from fighting, the stage manager noticed and had him escorted out of the party.

He was overly drunk and apologized to me the next day, I'm not one to hold grudges so let's plz keep names out of this.

To the MC's: It's really not that complicated, if we ask you not to rap, or not to talk over a drop, then don't. Don't be surprised when a dj turns you off because you can't listen. You have no right to do anything but walk away or apologize and ask for another go. If the billing on the flyer says MC ZYZY feat. dj _____ then go nuts, but this isn't hip hop and the MC's aren't the kings.

I think if you have the right MC it really can take a dj set to the next level, I don't understand why MC's don't listen to dj's. MC's should know that if you do a good job and you make the dj happy that he will bring out to other shows on tour and you will get paid!!!

i think mc's are proper important but i agree that talking/ spitting over drops (or the beat in general) is fucking annoying. you go to grime nights to listen to that, not dubstep ones.

I agree that MC's can be good. Pokes, Crazy D, etc who mainly are just there to hype..occasionally spit a little rhyme if the track warrants it.

I've been to a few nights where MC's just kill the vibe. Everytime you say something it takes a little away from the track. If you say a lot, it takes a lot away from every track.

DO NOT DO THIS PLEASE. If I wanted to see a rapper on stage I'd go to see a rapper. I'm there for dubstep, not some chump who thinks he's D Double trying to sell me his rap credentials. I don't care.

Pokes and Rod Azlan are class.

Rod Azlan never fails imo, hosts really well, spits in his own style and knows when to shut up.

As with anything, It's all about moderation.
