Getting started from scratch?

1 2 Decks (get Technics 1210s or 1200s everything else is serious waste)

I love people who say shit like this, not everyone can afford to get tech's for their first decks, some of the worlds best turntablists started out on belt drives! (by no means condoning belt drives however).

I use the old metallic blue stanton st-150's. They're sick...i dont see how they are any better than 1210's...theyre 6 years old and work absolutely perfectly. ive been using technics out a lot in the last 3 years since ive been mixing and i just cant see how you can disregard any other turntable. Obviously 1210's are leaps and bounds ahead of most turntables for they're not the only ones. A lot of people say they buy 1210's because thats the club standard and if theyre practising on a different set at home they wont b able to mix aswell in a club, but in my opinion, if you're playing out in clubs you should be good enough to mix on a completely different set up, it only takes a couple of tunes to get used to difference in torque.

I think for someone who is starting to mix dubstep then you have to look realistically at the way vinyl is going. I would recommend not buying 1210's and using the money to buy a set of cdj's, especially considering the type of dubstep you'll b mixing. I went straight from mixing jungle on vinyl to mixing dubstep on traktor without ever using CDJ's but ive had to start using CDJ's because frankly i cant afford to buy vinyl anymore, half the tunes i have you cant even buy on vinyl and fuck mixing at clubs using traktor or serato unless you're a big name with a techincal rider, you can set it up before the night starts or you're promoting you're own night.

I got a pair of ST.150's, they're super sweet, first pair was some T.60's and i still love rinsing on them at a mates who i sold them to.. i admit mixing vinyl holds you back a bit in relation to how much you can afford to buy, but man it's so much more fun then cdj's in terms of feel IMO.
