Why would you want to break out of "for the heads" only type of music?
Why not? It's not that I am looking to make pop music or anything like that but I would like to break out of the sub-sub-genre trap. And shit goddamn I just listened through the dubstep section on beatport for the last hour, is this still the genre for me anyway? Makes me want to puke to hear what has become of it to this point.

Total garbo, I know, but none of that has anything to do with me I don't know how it's a trap to make sub sub genre music? I'm gonna keep making beat driven bass heavy music, I don't care if no one in the top million on beatport is making anything like it. It really does seem like you have some type of pop mentality, whether you admit it or not. Not calling you out as a popster, just saying that seems to motivate you.

Honestly that is not the case but I have trapped myself into making a certain type of music and moving forward I would like to get back to trying to make my own music if such a thing exists.

It exists but there are always going to be influences.
For me, when I'm at home I pretty much listen to vinyl playing jazz, funk, disco, punk etc. but when I'm cruising around the city, my mp3 player is pretty much loaded up with electronic music and DJ mix sets. It's kind of interesting to me that I do that...

for just a few from the top of my head
i honestly don't listen to a lot of dubstep or whatever genre i'm focusing on producing so i can maintain outside influence and original/my own sound

My guitarist's family was from palmdale. We were hanging out, went to some bar to see some music, the band was so fucked up they couldn't play. They were like "does anybody wanna come up here?" So we went up ready to rock the joint, but all of their instruments were so far out of tune we couldn't even tune up. We tried to forge ahead, some insults were bandied about. The hillbilly bikers ended up chasing us out of there!
Bands: Slobberpussy, LMNOQ, The Red Thread, very briefly with the Martian Americans.

Of course it exists, go for it mate. If you get stuck just try de-constructing a melody e.g from another genre that your in to and re-build it with your own sounds. I find if my tracks are "feeling", the same'ish, it's a good idea to build them from a totally different direction e.g build chords and melodies first rather than drums, bass. My 2 cents (pence)

Slobberpussy is the greatest band name I have ever heard.

I used to think all that time I spent as a kid playing video games was a waste of time, but not after I re-listen to the music in those games...

heard this song about 4-5 years ago... been producing ever since haha...
but also alot of other bands/producers... Architects, youmeatsix, gallows, paramore, francesqa... they all got me into starting a band.. which then led to the long producing road!
