how long would you survive in the bush with only a tarpoline, lighter, string, and a knife?
I reckon I could be more than self sustainable...

I think most healthy people would be capable of living by themselves in the environment, its just they would freak out because they're out of their comfort zone.

when something does go wrong we'll all be fucked, while all the tribes etc round the world will be fine
because they know how to work in harmony with the earth and they realise material possessions and technology are irrelevant and unnecessary

How beneficial is technology, that's a damn hard question to answer. It's a double edge sword on one hand it can lead to human development, better standards of living, overall a better existence. But that is I suppose if it is aimed at alleviating or assisting something hazardous or strenuous. I guess then how beneficial is technology depends on what the technologies intended purpose is. How beneficially is a nuclear bomb? How beneficial was the creation of the pencil? How beneficial was the discovery of pasteurisation? I suppose you could debate this forever.... long for that I am going to get on with using technology instead of thinking about it.

Just so you know, technology is not limited to things made from plastic and laden with circuit boards that requires a connection to an electricity grid to power.... Any tool that is created from science for an intended use or improves upon an existing one is a piece of technology. You'll find those tribes that are the most technologically advanced are the ones that have made it through to this present time.
Just saying...

its saying that 'affluenza' is a new disease infecting those nations that can be defined as selfish capitalist nations - basically nations that are economically and socially similar to the US. This disease effects peoples mental wellbeing, so those that are chasing fulfillment through a life adhering to selfish capitalist notions will never be happy, and thus more likely to suffer from depression, mental illness, have drink/drug problems etc. I havent finished it yet, but it makes for pretty insightful (if very scary) reading. Kinda reminds of the oscar wilde quote about people who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

she said it was very wordy, which came as a shock to me considering it was a book!
if she got the jist of it, its about the whole stuggle to have everything, whilst you do not take the time to appreciate whats there. everyone wants the best but they never get there, because the best only gets better, along those lines?
she said it was a heavy read and it was a few years ago on a holiday, might have to try and find it seems pretty interesting.

for one without technology we wouldn't be on here from all over the globe sharing information and discussing whether we think technology is beneficial... probably be hanging out in our little make shift shacks scratching our balls thinking what to kill for dinner
