u heard of vsts! ?
Sorry to bust your chops mate, but actually using an 8 bit sampler, or even an 8 bit digital synthesizer sounds completely different to a sound thats then bitcrushed to 8 bits.

Its about how the actual A/D converters used, and more like its circuitry. That is totally unique.

Had a 3 hour lecture on exactly this, and yeah i can prove it.

just kidding, I know what you're talking about
its 1:30am so im gonna cut things short.

Things made in 24 bit, complex.. complex.. amounts of bits. High quality of audio ---> Summed so 8 bits, has the 24 bit quality pushed into an 8 bit. Its trying to effect all those pretty bits into 8.
Things made in 8 bit/8 bit sampling, does not have the complex waves to process in the first place. That and the circuitry involved. Not trying to be know all, as im tired and probably contradicted myself there

This is really hard to explain.

I have a ton of vinyl drums but don't know how they would sound lofi. Or is there just a plug in that would be easier?

easier yes, same sound no
if you want a comparison downsample something you have to 4bit 6000hz mono then i can do the same and you can be the judge

well in order to achieve similar you'd have to use some sort of foldback distortion on top of bitcrushing
hell even look at the waveforms ;)

Here are the vinyl drum files. I guess everyone can have them, I just got them from some other forum and chopped the up. Some of the best hits are marked with # or * but they are all pretty decent.

heh yea noooo way i'm doing that many files seeing as i have to manually convert them to sysex files and individually dump them to a cart that holds all of like 5 secs of audio before i have to start again
any in particular from that, that you want done?

Just do the ones that have special denotations, like # or * please.

i can do the # ones, but since i'm on a windows machine to do this * is not an option for file naming schemes so no clue which files those are

How about some more 8-bit crushing action, I can run some sounds through my sidstation and its filter if someone wants.
I'm getting one as well so I'd kind of like to hear how the mssiah and sidstation sound together beforehand... or maybe through each other. :r:
