Heres an example of a break I sequenced last night after spending a bit of time reading into rhythm, its not mixed and the reverse hit would sound better if it was a reverse reverb hit but its just a quick example, stuck a logic keyboard loop on top just for the sake of having something else in there with it

that pivotal remix you mentioned the other day is all hattrixx method fwiw btw...

had a big discussion with him yeeeears ago on the old exegene site about the two methods, got quite heated first time id 'met' him online (and used forums TBH) - we had a heated discussion.

I always preferred the heavy remarc/dillinja beats to the clever/'realistic' paradoxy stuff myself.

IT was all resolved amicably.

I'm liking this thread, been really trying to step up my game with my drums recently. It's the thing I struggle with most I think but I'm slowly getting there! Need to listen to more old jazz/swing records I reckon.

I find the way that phrases work in drums fascinating - the spectrum between a part of a phrase that sounds like a full stop and a part of a phrase that leads into the next one and makes you expect something else, and the way that different sorts of bit are combined to make something that flows but is varied.

Don't really know much about how that sort of thing works, though.

Poss a bit off topic but being an old jungle head i hated it when all the two step stuff appeared.

Then started to get into it a bit and totally deconstructed the nine to see what made it not boring for 6 mins.

Turns out theres loads of variation in the percussion/hi hats, often switching at odd bar numbers. Warheads similar too.

Oi, that's not quite fair... If you are going for realism, programmability and sound quality then yes, it's the way to go.

If you're making skanky old jungle, then it's definitely not

me too... i wish i had a kit so i could get back into practice
i find working with midi in cubase or just straight audio in renoise with breaks to be just as intuitive as each other for me
prolly a little bi-polar and ocd when it comes to working with breaks though
