There's a lot of genre (what is it?) threads on here lately. Is it because summer is ending? I'm about to go make some Fumdrunk, I mean, Drumfunk...

i was appalled earlier today when upping tunes to chemical records and had to use the choppage subgenre when the tune was clearly drumfunkmks wrote:There's a lot of genre (what is it?) threads on here lately. Is it because summer is ending? I'm about to go make some Fumdrunk, I mean, Drumfunk...

Re: Ok... DRUMSTEP???
Ok, after playing dnb in clubs for 10 yrs i can say that Drumstep is the new name for half-time drum n bass. 'glad this different style of music finally has a name. The drum n bass community has been making good drumstep for 10 years.
Drumstep is drum n bass with a half time bassline @ 85bpm vs a bassline going 170.

Thing is - it IS catching on - it has very similar style to dubstep (the smashing snare) but is definitely geared for dancefloor vibes.
I don't mind it tbh, of what I've heard. I think it will get quite a lot of attention in the next few years.

I guess I would have to respectfully disagree with this, sir. Halftime basslines against the drums has been the rhythm engine of jungle/dnb since the beginning. It's really more about the halftime drums with this style.EBR wrote:Drumstep is drum n bass with a half time bassline @ 85bpm vs a bassline going 170.

I agree, so far everything I have heard under the name "drumstep" could be drumnbro. Midrange cack city. It seems like with drumstep people can feel even more free to lay down one note of cack and call it a track. Just strirring though folks, I know there are people who love this shit but it just ain't for me.signals wrote:i like drum and bro

Re: Ok... DRUMSTEP???
It seems to me that it's DnB with a snare on the 3 instead of 2 and 4...

Pisses me off when all the elitists go 'it's not Drumstep it's half time Drum n Bass!' as if they're part of some cool gang and no-one else may join. Like someone else said, i'm sure when Dubstep first came about the same group were going 'Na it's still Garage' or 'Na it's still grime'.
When you want to say 'Liquid' you don't go, 'Oh i like this track, it uses similar basslines and bar layouts to other styles, it contains fewer bar-oriented samples and more instrumental layers (both synthesized and natural), harmonies, and ambience, producing a calmer atmosphere directed at both home listeners and nightclub audiences'. You don't 'describe' the sub-genre, you give it a name. So if people want to call it 'Drumstep' instead of describing it as 'Half time drum n bass' which is a mouthful, let them.
And for the record, i don't even like Drumstep haha.

Urban Dictionary says:
"A sub genre of drum and bass where the beat structure is "half time" but the remaining elements still adhere to the usual tempo and melody pattern style"
Basically the same thing everyone else says
LOL they also sell drumstep hats, coffee cups and mugs and magnets
http://www.urbandictionary.com/products ... id=4445445
This song is sick by the way

Re: Ok... DRUMSTEP???
GUYS, IS THIS SO HARD?
drum n bass
drumstep
rule of tumb: if it sounds like weebwobstep with faster drums it's drumstep (duh), if it's just dnb with half the snares it's drum n bass with half the snares (doubleduh)
if you disagree, go and tell your buddy bout that totally sick new drumstep tune you heard and play them
they WILL be disappointed/not have expected it.
