I dont think this rule always applies btw, although granted some tunes can get reptitive

i dont know why the focus with some people is always on the drops?!
the subtle things add just as much to the whole production, just coz the alignment of the drums and the tuning doesn't make you roll over the floor dribbling doesn't mean its something that should be overlooked.

Just my opinion but i think a lot of drops would be nothing without the atmosphere/mood/vibe that's built up with the pads and kits and use of samples!

this statement is a little extreme.

I do like some variation in the second drop, if only a little- joker d and icicle - forseen and youngsta + kryptic minds cold blooded both do it really well.

Its also nice to hear some progression in tunes, not neccesarily lots of new layers but little change ups and additions that have the tune telling a story..Distance - No Warning when the beat switches up I actually prefer it to the main refrain.

that said I can think of an awful lot of sick tunes where the main section is so heavyweight that no change up is required.

abstract - touch is long and quite repetitive

but it's GENIUS and never gets old.

Bit of a weird statement, maybe the artist in question is doing what feels right to them, your not arrogant enough to think that tunes are tailor made for your tastes every time surely?

I noticed that on horrid henry aswell and thought it kinda strange..

because its the sorta style where you can make the slightest change and it have the biggest impact.

This saddens me up, a sick tune, but the 2 mins on repeat... and loads of tunes i like are like this..

loads of coki´s stuff (debt has a huge drop alright, but spongebob, horrid henry, tree trunk... repeat)
some skream´s newer output (especially MM- mad... after the tune switches up for 3 minutes the second drop is like... dissapointment)



just an extra drum sound or a subtle variaton to melody and or synth... not just pasting 96 bars so the tune has 5 minutes...

and it´s not really that hard...

this is dance music. Artists are allowed to be lazy if they create a wicked beat. Although it is a lot more creative when they change up the second drop, there are a million other things that they could do to make a tune a better piece of music (while staying in the dubstep genre).

I've been comparing riffs from dance music to more melodic music recently. It's real interesting how some artists stick to one path while some combine the dance element with creative chord progressions and melodies that portray a certain mood.

Most of Coki's newer tunes fall more in the "dance" category because of the filthy synth and accessible rhythms.. Goblin or Random for example.

Some of his older stuff, along with somes of Mala's, fits in the more melodic category though. (Mood Dub, Forgive, Don't let me go)

I hate to classify music like this, but there is an obvious difference.
