sonicacadem sucks dolphin gonads imo. that is why i didnt buy a subscription.

dubspot however doesnt suck like that.. ive found some pretty useful tips + they actually explain what they're doing... and use the daw supplied stuff instead of some shady third party app (however i do love sylenth)

i do not own live so it wouldnt be the greatest thing for me to subscribe to that... but they already give away plenty of stuff for free.. u cant spit on that.. i only use it to get better at live for when im at my friends house... but i still feel like they're being nice to me

[2]DAY_- -- mastering, yes, awesome. We'll be working on that soon. We offer a mixing and mastering course here in NYC too (I'm actually taking it next week myself!)

palo56 -- song structure/arrangement - awesome, yes. We'll work on that and also for each genre (dubstep, techno, house, etc...)

VirtualMark -- definitely - we're always keeping up with different synthesis techniques. If you have Ableton, I would check out our "Dubstep Wobble Bass Part 2" video. I myself use Operator and have found you can get all types of sounds from it, from Caspa-sounding to that Chasing Shadow style you're looking for (it sounds like Chasing Shadow seems to use a combination of chorus and reverb with an FM synth.)

There's also our part 1 wobble bass video that works with samples. I use this all the time and really love it - I still use it for sub bass.

upstateface -- on it! We have a 3 part side chain compression youtube series you might want to check out. I got a lot of use out of it, and started noticing the technique in a ton of tracks, including West Coast beat producers (Nosaj Thing, Flying Lotus, etc.) Using side chain compression subtly has also helped me clean up the mix of my tracks, so my bass kicks hit hard without interfering with the bass (really important for dubstep.)

P.S. We just posted a "Follow-Action" tutorial video yesterday. This is an awesome technique used by West Coast beatmakers to make automated, randomized moments that still follow a groove. I started messing with this technique myself haha

Hey everybody,

We just posted a new video on the Dubspot blog. It's an Ableton Live Tutorial on how to make Dubstep Talking Wobble Bass w/ Operator. This style of Talking Wobble Bass can be heard in current Doctor P, Rusko, and Excision tracks, as well tunes from other upcoming producers. Mike Hatsis, aka !banginclude develops the sound using a blend of Ableton's Operator and Ableton's Redux filter. The Downsample filter on the Redux plugin adjusts the "speech" aspect of the effect, and Operator's Frequency, LFO, and Coarse filters change the tuning of the synth.
