Jehst & Micall smashed it, managed to grab a Bastard Sunz album that got thrown out too. Not bad those Bristol locals, doing something a lil different.

US was superior, UK now shits all over it in every way. Glad we got that out the way.

when i first saw this thread i thought it was going to be asking if people used to be on ukhh.com forum.

i'm a bit out of the loop thesedays though, although that stands for all the music i'm into not just ukhh.

been so many classic tunes most of them been linked already, heard obba super's album a bit ago and really liked that. one of the most original ukhh albums i've heard in a while. one thing which ukhh never did was have that many real quality full length albums. tons of classic e.ps and singles but were too many weak and hit'n'miss albums.

lookout for the hock tu down album that features lee scott from the antiheroes crew, that is big. also latest diversion tactics album is good too.

indeed liquid diction was big, not sure exactly how old but 16 doesn't sound far off. that whole e.p is sooo good, glad that it didn't get taken when i had a few of my records go missing i would of been gutted.

@wubstep - could you still find copies of it on wax?

syntax is big and one of the illest freestylers i've ever met. after a foreign beggars gig in derby i told pav that me+my mate had nowhere to stay in derby so they said jam back with them to their mates pub, ended up there til like 4/5a.m. me, pav (orifice), metropolis and nonames were havin a freestyle and syntax was in the corner getting off with this gal. he then went to the toilet and on his way back dropped one verse that just blew everyone else away, the man is ridiculous. the stuff he's done with stig is wicked especially fatty+speccy.

Yeah Syntax is quality... seen him play with Stig locally, and he was at Glasto this year with Foreign Beggars (although Orifice was not

and they played lots of awful dubstep

). His double time skills are rediculous!

Not really embedded within the scene or anything, don't know any heads so I never know who's 'accepted' or not. Wasn't sure if his Beggars association got him hate etc. His Self-Taught album is b2b brilliance, some of the truest lyricism I ever heard. Saw him & Stig the other week in Bris, fucking killed it too. Was fucking rammed with UWE students, some tarty thing in the front row went completely topless for like 15 minutes while Stig & 'tax took it in turns to take her to pieces freestyle. Was brilliant/cringe as hell.

yeah the beggars have been a bit questionable lately but they still made one of the best ukhh albums of all time, asylum speakers was amazing.

growing up with both uk hip hop and grime, which do you like more. which do you find yourself rinsing more? or is it equal?

Definately grime, has a realer essence to it when you're confronted with things beyond just listening to the music (thigns as simple as seeing the lifestyle choices by those creating it). Dunno, whenever confronted with UK hip hop the look and style doesn't quite sit with reality as well as grime for the British situations. Great sounds though, but sometimes means am forced to take too much of the actual music with a grain o' salt

Not one to judge things by how they look etc and I know it's mainly about the music, but things get a little fishy when many artists ina genre try to look and act similar. Also a row of screw faced grimey rude boys at the back of a rave was more my kinda atmosphere than the more fashion styled parades of the hip hop acts

Not sure if your question was going beyond just the music and vibes though, sorry if my answer was innapropriate!

See, I was gonna argue the opposite but cba. Grime has always seemed to be more about the image/beef/hype/badman-ness of it all, doesn't seem to be anything outside of that. But that's just me.

As to your question, hip hop will always be superior to grime, since is just taking a small part of the sound of hip hop and exaggerating it. Lyrical content wise, it never ever matches up and theres nothing more cringe than seeing some terrible grime MC not even realise his syllable count is completely wrong.

just was wondering if grime "hits closer to home" so to speak. if it can be related to more than an import genre like hip-hop. when i asked that question i anticipated more answers supporting grime (although you the only one that that responded lol). but there could always be the chance that the people who came up with grime don't like grime at all. seems like wubstep reps the other side of the argument.

from what little i had heard about the grime scene over here, there was always a negative image associated with it. then again theres a negative image associated with hip hop as well. i guess 'urban music' always will have that image.

i always enjoyed the instrumental aspect of it far more than the mcs. but i've never been fully immersed in that scene so i don't know.
