Deadmau5's dubstep is a bloody joke. Sounds like 99% of the mid-range cack that everyone posts on sc. As far as skrillex goes he has got some nice sound design skills. I would assume he has sampled himself screaming or something(as he is an emo screamer or whatever). The traditional resample/eq splitting/ distortion and bitcrushers galore still applies.

Why not create something new?

some of skrillex's synth work is as good as, if not better than some of excisions imo, OP's linked tune is horrible as a song but that godzilla-ish roar at like :43 is ridiculous. not saying it makes a good tune but fucking next level shit in terms of synthesis. same can be said for alot of his tunes

Erm...I call it jump up dubstep. Dubstep is so versatile, and creative minds have twisted it into so many things. And considering it's a sub-genre...idk. But why waste time calling it stuff when it's all about listening. Sorry this has nothing to do with the op...

I like most of skrillex's stuff, just because I don't view it as dubstep. And since I'm not looking at it as traditional dubstep, it doesn't upset me if it sounds like a demon being raped, etc., or doesn't have atmosphere, because i'm not expecting it to as i would be if i were listening to something with the mindset of it being dubstep.

love how the first thing people do in these threads is either bash the artist or have a chat about sub genres

well yh... point ? either way he's synthesized some part of it, he's created a sound from the basis of another one, just with lots of resampling.

still better sound design and capabliity than a helluv alot of producers around atm
