Was just made aware of this thread!

Didn't like this movie so much, but the sound design was just killer. Literally in the theatre just listening to this thing.

To everyone considering putting a field recording setup together. DO IT!

It is fun, great way to be out and about and working on music rather than molding in the studio, produces incredible personal sounds... just pure win. Time consuming is the down side, but worth it :O

The bass tones in the explosions are inspiring.

thats what I do for a living.. but oddly enough it doesn't translate well into music. They say Post Production audio is a graveyard for musicians. It's 2 completely different mindsets and the larger percent of movies made have 0 budget (besides the obvious summer blockbusters). I'm still blessed to do this for a living so I'm not complaining but field recording doesn't exist, and I'm always on a tight deadline trying to cram 3 months of Sound Design and Mix into 2 months. I mostly pull from sound libraries like Hollywood Edge and Sound Ideas libraries. I just put together a 92 mb pack of cool SFX for you guys I'm uploading them now, I'll make a thread when they're done.

Awesome video.

I was just thinking, what if you were walking around near that tunnel at the end and started hearing those insane growls?

Wow! The bit with the gunshot sampling reminded me of layering drums, albeit FAR more advanced.
Wicked stuff, really shows the lengths they go to to get a specific type of sound

I don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I'm pretty interested in what you do. But the more people I speak to that do this kind of thing there more I hear what a killer it is for writing and enjoying music in your own time. Any words of wisdom or interest?

one good thing is the skills are transferable, another is at least your working in a studio and thats better than construction or whatever. But it's like i never deal with oscilators and stuff, i deal with dolby specs like leq A, lkfs, dbfs, and whatever. I guess i'm one of the only dubstep artists who could mix my whole album in 5.1 or 7.1 because of my job. mostly my job is all volume leveling, eqing. compressing and stroking directors and producers ego's. for sure its better than any other job, but it's still work and not too much fun due to deadlines, tight budgets and asswipes in the industry... but i remember a director asking me " you having fun yet?" I said "yea lot's" in a sarcastic way and he said " dude, were making movies, your supposed to be having fun" so that convo always brings me back to the essence of it all. I never give my opinion on anything or try to make it "cool" because my idea of "cool" is waaaay different from what their idea is so i just keep everything pretty standard. We as dubstep artists love the supernatural and things that arent real.. surreal fantasy stuff... this job is more about reality like cloth movements, people eating, room tone, birds in trees, wind in trees, making actors sound good when they mumble all the time and the on set recordist doesn't give me enough signal to work with and they recorded it next to an air conditioner so i have to de noise de hum the whole fucking scene. but as i'm writing this i'm at work about to leave BUMPING a 12 gauge track in my office (studio) so that part is always cool.hahah. if you want to pursue it, you should. my advice is get a job as a runner at a post facility and learn from the mixer there and work your way up. school won't get you anywhere (maybe pursue computer science if you do, it seems better for the real world and transfers into computer music), it's more about your credits and who you know. PM me if you have any specific questions or whatevs, i'm always down to give advice, especially after a few beers i can't shut the fuck up.lol U can also check my website if you want ( i need to update it tho) http://www.slashasteriskmusic.com

oh also i did make the thread and it's called I have taken so much from the internet the SFX are in there, i'm gonna do another drop in a week or two when I have a sec to chop up some more goodies
