Sweet. But I'm trying to wrap my head around this.
So like the 5 zones = 5 different sounds. So fader in the middle is a sound plus 2 hard left and right and 2 more in between?
And your controlling the velocity by the speed of the fader? Do you set like 3 or 4 velocity levels or is it a 0-127 thing?
Then those buttons turn on and off effects?

Effin sweet dude, I wanna do some creative midi shit now.

wt you get for left to right and right to left moves:

Image

so if you are on the middle section you have to know witch side you from to determine which note is triggered: 2 (g-2) if you come from the left, and 6 (d-2) if you come by right.

the two blue big knobs are just direction monitors.
velocity work on 127 steps.

demo set here" beatfader+counterlobby" :)

That's a fantastic idea.
Very well executed too.
Shitty controller tho - hercules dj MK1 :) I had one before I got decks about 11 years ago lol.
This is really sweet man. I'm getting into Live for performance (dropped 2 sets now) and will be back to ask you about this soon :)

hello

for thoses who want to understand the counter device, try this tuto :

http://www.zshare.net/download/860010866268a6f1/

To make it easy, the trigers listen to QSDF keys on pc keyboard on the default octave range.

q - kik :3 kick + cym if you play a tom before
s - snare : first snare after a kick : snare next snares : claps and congas.
d - hihats : 2 series of 3 sounds according last drum was a snare or a kick.
f - tom :8 toms pitch decrement.

This is quality man!
Really enjoyed that... I thought the actual music that you made was really nice.

Only thing is, must rinse your crossfader!! Those things wear out pretty quickly in my experience.. [maybe because I use Behringer] but if you're slamming it from one end to the other very quickly that can't be all that good for it.

Either way, big up and keep on doing what you do!

yo bro

you right but it not so fragile. i play faderbeat sice 3 years now, and i "only" completely broke my m audio x session mixer. but the cheap dj control or novation fader seems robust!
we work on a midi controler using ribbons, and rane faders.

anyone, tel me if tou dont understand this counter tuto ;)

Hey rmut, lets try to bridge the language gap!

I've been trying to get more live with my production of music. Like more live playing instead of sitting and writing on the screen.

With the whole setup that you've created here, are you performing a composition that has already been made, then taken apart to perform, or does this set up have the capability to actually jam out new beats.

Shit, that is an extremely horribly worded question... I know you are playing these sounds live, but... is that because you've already created the song and taken it apart so that it can be played live, or did you have bits and pieces of audio which you put together live to make the song?

If you were an english speaker, you wouldn't know what the fuck I was trying to ask... well, maybe someone can rephrase this for me?

Hi Nowaysj

No problem for you English, it seems better than mine :) as we live in Belgium, French is my native language. Where you from?

For playing live we don't try to play something that we sequence on the computer before, its to hard and maybe a nonsense.
As you say, its better to create it in the same way that you have to play it.
Since we play all live we completely stop to produce track in the old fashion. Playing is so addictive. The setup on the video is not our current setup, its just a small setup to demonstrate the beafader only.

our full setup is :
3 padkontrol (our fav instrument)
2 launch pad
1 octapad ( to play with stick )
1control pad ( stik to ..)
1 novation nocturn
1dj consol :)
1 joystick that play beat not from the knobs only but from the 16 positions computed from x/y axis.
1 techincs 1200 + vivyl time code from mspinky, to scratch midi envelopes in place of audiofile.
1 rane mixer
1 koaspad, only in midi with adapted maxforlive device for each trak. ( no fx, instrument )
1 nanokontrol
this week we got 1 umix2 mixibes controler ( for beatfadering )

Its a bit heavy and need a long soundchek but its so fun! There is 0 sequences in our set, all is played. I produce records since 1997 ( something like 40 on a lot of label in japan, europe and usa) , make more track start to be boring... Play live this way like this is very refreshing !

The small inconvenient is that we run it on a 4 cores big computer (1 ms latency ) and the computer is very solicited, between each tracks we have to use mediaplayer to send a small interlude or a soundfx durring the loading of every live session. We can put maximum 1 or 2 track by session, maybe cause we use a lot of maxforlive devices.
I hope we can fix it soon, i dont know how...Its seems computer don't evolve a lot these years.

If you want to play live you are the kind of dude that we would touch with theses videos, if we could help you, just ask... did you use live and max? did you try the counter tutorial??

All the best for you and your performance :)

Thanks for that reply!

Naw, I don't have max for live.

Let me ask you this, what is your process for writing songs? From beginning to end?

Mainly jaming ( 2 or 3 usualy) and create small devices helped by some PureData rude-boys, mixing, processing master chanel with the 2 pads and a mixer on the knee, every stages in random and repeated order. This way, tracks are always in progress as long you continue to play it.
We start to use more and more retro-actions between us. That kind of systemic approach give ( at my opinion ) a kind of simple coherence in the music, cause what you play depend of what the other plays and reciprocally. Forcing you to listen to the wall stuff, not the part you play.. fun.

i would make some video to show simple example soon, appreciate your feedback ;)

So, where do your sounds come from, are you working with mainly samples?

How do you choose the samples you work with?

At what stage of the song writing to do yo choose the samples? <--- this is really what I'm getting at.

If I was doing this, I imagine I would set up some drum samples on the faders, and just start jamming a beat. Then pick out some bass samples, set them up on the faders and what not, just start to build up. But I'm curious how you do it.

Merci for all the great work.

Seen the videos on create digital music and have a cd of the belgium label with long french name with a track of yours.

So without MAX would it be posssible to select multiple samples (oneshot because I wouldnt know how to trigger loops without automatic stop) with the fader via range settings in midi? I don't have MAx on my machine at home.

I do have the crappy hercules thingy ;)

I know you could do this pretty easily in flstudio. I'm kicking some ideas around right now. I don't know if these guys trigger the sample when the fader moves into a zone, or if the sample is triggered, and the zone determines which sample it is. I think the former. That may be a little harder in fl.
