pretty sure it's some sort of distribution deal.

don't think this will help the UK scene particularly. depends what he makes though.

I wish ever rapper was forced to talk about books and comics over 90s east coast beats. Hip hip would be so much better.

1) lol you seriously don't know who scarface is? This is why I cant respect anyone from europe regarding hip hop
2) are you trying to say all black people are like bubba from forrest gump?

anyone who doesn't enjoy scarface/geto boys is pretty much worthless

We've gone over this in about 200 threads on this forum. Europeans can't related to hood life... they grasp to NYC rap because even in their projects NYC is still a part of NYC and the connection to outside culture is there. The projects in the south are miles and miles (figuratively) away from the cities they're attatched to. There are people in the south who live their entire lives without leaving a 20 block radius. Their cultures are profoundly unique and there is absolutely nothing in western europe that people can relate to it.

You guys are too fixated on choppy 'intelligent' rappers and its why your MC's sound so forumlaic. Punchline rapping doesn't go well in the US because it's about as fraudulent and rehersed as can be. Your idea of freestyling is just a rapper using 'ammunition' they have memorized.

Anywho, you like what you can relate to. Western Europe is much like north eastern US/east coast life and why you guys seem to gravitate to that sound

And not in NYC ? And who are you talking about when you say "intelligent MCs" ? Sage Francis or El-P ? MF DOOM maybe ? Their rhymes carry a message, just like rappers from the south. Honestly when you tell me "south" I think about Chamillionnaire and Paul Wall, lol.

2011 NYC is a much different place than 1990 NYC.

If the first words out of your mouth in regards to southern rap aren't UGK, Devin the Dude, or Scarface then you know nothing about hip hop.

And lol @ shitting on Paul Wall. Dudes got a sick flow and shits bangers.

I just find the dirty south stuff boring and I'm not going to agrue the merits of different styles with you.

Who gives a fuck of someone doesn't leave a 20 block radius for their entire lives, many places in europe have similar sub cultures in poverty stricken areas.

I just don't see how having a different taste in hip hop makes anyones opinion less valid.

I think the difference in culture has to do with what you're doing when listening to your music.

Are you gonna fix up your cars system, burn one, and go cruising while listening to MF-Doom? No that's i-pod music. You gonna turn down the bass so you can hear nas's lyrical whimsings clearer? Better line the car with some tweeters!

It's a different culture. When its 105 degrees for 2 months straight and you want to go driving around so you can get something resembeling air conditioning, you arent gonna throw in something lyrically driven.

I don't know how to explain it. It's just different in the south. We aren't riding on subways listening to mobb deep hyping ourselves up for the battle rap with b-rabbit at the club tonight.

For sure... but my point being the majority of the argument against southern rap but for east coast shit is context, story driven lyrics.

It's like saying every movie should be dialogue driven when its obvious there are some genius visual driven movies.

I'm saying Skrillex is more dancefloor oriented music than Mala and comparing the two as if they are similar is mildly fucking retarded. Two different sounds aimed at two entirely different audiences.

LOL @ 'shit bangers' meaning something good.

@ PKAY

You're saying that some rap is mainly party music, thats ok, you don't have to bring all that regional bullshit into it and if you do, realize that there are some people not from where you live that could bring much more coherent points about wherever you live and the MUSIC originating from there.

I'm saying hip hop more than any other music relates to regional dialect and has vocal representation of where you're from.

It doesn't make sense for people in the UK to dig hearing about elbows, swangers, purp, mellow yellow when they have none of that in their culture. Fuck it took most of the US a decade plus to figure out purple wasn't referring to a color. don't expect someone in france to be shouting "I'm in that south dallas, i'm in that oak cliff, I'm in that funkytown chillin in that stop six".

Already, boy, girl, caps, hooded, all that shit means different in the south than what it does in the same country let alone thousands of miles a way.

I guess it's like listening to music in your own language.
