So to try get this thread going again...

How is everyone going to approach this???

I'm thinking on the first of feb (if I got the whole day free) to lock myself away in the studio, and try to start at least 3 track, with some skin, and bones to them. See If I can finish one the first day. Then try to soldier on making a few wips, a day, and try to finish at least one wip a day.

So yeah, my plan is to go at it full force, that way if I don't meet my own targets, I might meet the targets that have been set.

Also im playing on making composition, my main focus, for a few reasons;

1. It seems to be the main focus with this event.
2. I don't get bogged down with mixdown.
3. I don't end up with a polished load of nothing.
4. I can go back, and improve tracks, after this is over.

Sound design while be a close seconds, as it's the thing I love most about making music.

I going to try put in 4+ hours a day, and on some day try to do 12+. I reckon I could do that, I make stuff every day as it is now, and put in about 1-12 hours a day, a few months ago I had a day were I did not do any thing to do withmaking music, and it felt weird. atm I normal can find 2-4 hours in the day for music.

also I am thinking, of abstaining from making music for the last week of this month. to get my idea tank full, but that could be hard, because i'm addicted to making music...

Anyone doing a concept album? or got any other interesting plans?

Concept is an idea. Personally I am a big fan of concept era rock albums. Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons and the Who and all that. I don't know if it's going to be concept persay because I think everything needs to be preconceived but I do think I would like everything just to flow together.

I'm in although it took me a few months just to write 6 tracks for first free EP, think I might aim for at least 12 tracks, start it on the 1st Feb and just work on it everyday inbetween work and other stuff.

For me, this is like climbing the Olympus Mons in a wheel chair. Forget about it bro. Maybe some day I'll get a jet pack.

This sounds like a fun exercise, even though I write an albums worth of tracks in a month anyway. I'm going to try and make a coherent, cohesive album. I've only done that a couple of times before and I think it would be really useful for getting me out of my rut and forcing me to be a bit more creative instead of making the same song over and over

My plan is to alternate days, so on the first day I'm going to create ALL the project files and keep them in their own separate folder, correctly labelled 01-14 (because I have OCD lol) then I'm gonna see if I can get a tune finished that day, the next day I'll only do some brief tidying up, then the 3rd day will be another get a whole tune done in one go day and so on and so forth...hopefully that should work.

That don't leave you any room for error though. If you miss finishing a track one day, you will be playing catch up, but if you think you can stick to your goal than go for it.

I am playing on writing 42 wips, and finishing 28, that way when I get stuck on finishing tracks, or dom't have the time to work on tracks. If I don't meet my own aims, than I should still meet the 14 track mark.

I am currently fairly optimistic that I will get it done, I few months ago I was finishing a track every few days, but I have been finishing less, and less recently.

I think I'm just not gonna let myself get behind. If a track isn't perfect I'm just gonna say sod it and move onto the next one anyway. Hopefully it will be a good exercise to improve my workflow.

God knows how the people who actually have jobs are gonna attempt this 0.o

Fair play, I know if I was to approach it like you I would most likely not get it done, but different people work better different ways.

I would rather like to try this, but I'm back at Uni next week and plan to put my all into that 'cos I kind of bailed on it last semester a bit, aha
I will say though that I'm liking the concept album approach quite a lot, so it might be something to aim for

Is it exclusively EDM- based? I'm feeling in a guitar mood and not picked mine up in months and seeing as Syd Barrett was a local boy (my mum's Ex used to pick him up regularly in his Taxi which blows my mind, haha) it could be refreshing to do a lot of guitar bits :corndance:

I have a job and 2 kids, wife, etc. I probably am not going to get it done realistically. But I am not even going to try 14 tracks. In the 70's that was considered a double LP. Like I say 2 - 15 minute sides. Fuck a cd.
