I haven't heard that.
I've had two 'almost psychotic' episodes, where I managed to intervene in time. And you're OK with the risk of having this experience again?
If I do get a full blown psychotic episode, I'll be diagnosed as bipolar I. Let's hope it's a matter of 'if' and not 'when'.
Thanks for your description of what it's like for you. I value your posts in general cos they are lucid & sincere. Frankly, I'd rather that you didn't become psychotic but remained capable of describing the edge. If I was Genevieve & wanted to remain fully functional in response to the needs of others, I'd listen to my reasonable fears. But if risk-taking is what makes you happy...wear the consequences.

Not to make light of the thread, but I wouldn't do it just because it's shitty. haha

Also, in my personal opinion, the fact that you've had perfectly fine experiences with shrooms is proof enough that you could MOST LIKELY handle salvia.
I've never really found it to be a very mental drug. Weird, and potentially disorienting but not emotionally involving enough to elicit any kind of freak-out, at least for me...
I'd be more worried if you did acid, tbh. I know you don't even wanna fuck with that, though.

scared of the acid? There has been no scientific proof that acid causes any harm at all.

I think acid is wayyy less of a mindfuck than shooms. I can easily talk myself out of bad moments on acid, but on shrooms, once a bad trip starts, its gonna be a living hell from then on.

I was diagnosed as bipolar (with schizotypal tendencies.) I have also spent quite a bit of time experimenting with salvia along with a variety of other pyschedelics.
I have only ever had one unpleasant experience with salvia which I associate with it being the only time I ever smoked an extract of the leaf. I think it was a 10x. The unpleasantness was two fold...
1) It felt like a fully "mechanical" trip/experience (much like 1,4 butynol but amplified)
2) It lacked the intensity of the experiences I had from smoking straight leaves
I am quite a fan of the dissassociative trip of salvia. I find the disconnect/reconnect sensations of the trip to be quite cathartic. Especially when mixed in with other psychedelics while "cocktail tripping." It is most certainly not a "feel groovy" sort of trip for me. I do not think of any of the experiences I have had were "fun" by any stretch of the term but, all but the one have been enjoyable and rewarding.
MDA/MDMA had significantly more negative impact on my emotional well being than any other substance I ever experimented with as they both trigger depressive episodes for weeks following an experience.
As a sidenote... even my one unpleasant salvia trip was a carnival ride compared to the sensation of being on lithium, now THAT is a fucked up drug. YMMV.
As far as a recomendation about experimenting with salvia I'd say go slow and ease into to it. No sense in trying to storm heaven until you know how you are going to react to the sensations of the trip.
As far as psychotic/near-psychotic episodes go, I have only had one during a psychedelic excursion after severely under-estimating the potency of the mushrooms I was eating. Looking back it was a serious turning point in my emotional growth that allowed me to find a lot more comfort in the mood shifts and, eventually a sense of stability within experiencing my own life.
But, that is a whole other story.

Not literal harm, man, but it can definitely fuck you up mentally if you take it in the wrong state of mind or have some kind of preexisting mental condition.
I believe it has even acted as a catalyst for rapid onset of dormant schizophrenia in some.
I personally don't feel like it fucked me up, but it has definitely changed me for better or worse in a way that I can't even really begin to articulate without a wall of pretentious text.

I'm not doing it for the enjoyment as much as the experience. Hard to explain but, I don't enjoy shrooms, but I enjoy the fact that I'm experiencing them.

Thank you for your kind words! And yeah, risk-taking is indeed part of my personality and I'm fully aware of unhealthy that can be.

Nope, not on any brainmeds (yet).

Yeah, I've had some fucked up experiences, but I like to believe I'm 'stubborn' enough to not let myself get convinced of shit that easily. I think that's what kept me from being psychosis or get carried away by drugs too much.

That's an interesting perspective I'll keep in mind. I'll definitely start with a low dose, though.

This may be presumptive but...
you say you're mindful of the possible consequences to yourself
but what consideration do you give to the people who have to pick up the pieces?
Sure, we can't be responsible for others' actions or responses to our choices
but,
if we empathize with the care (love?) that they have for us,
should we not at least take into account the repercussions for them.
I know I don't wanna spend the rest of my life
catering to the needs of a psycho relative
whether it involves time, money or tears.
Do you have anyone? ( or at least open to being loved?)
Have they been so neglectful as to deserve your baggage?
Is your desire to push self-gratification that important?
Can you identify beyond this one mind/experience to account for the well-being of others?
Do you care?
Or is oblivion too attractive?
I asked these questions & chose to comprimise.
Perhaps I was cowardly in the face of existential challenge
but living in recognition of reality's drag has,
on the whole,
been rewarding.

The answer I have in my head is a bit too personal for it to just be posted on a message board. Good question, though!
