if you are getting a Intel i7 Sandy-Bridge or a i7 processor from the 900 series you should not worry. Especially not if you have a good soundcard/audio device. I'm pretty sure that the crackling is cause by the integrated soundcard and not mainly the processor itself since a quad core should be able to handle it, depending on the GHz of course. Get a Intel quad processor with atleast 3.0GHz and hyper-threading (The i7 950 for example or the i7 2600/2600k), AMD is more affordable, but hopefully not sounding fanboyish, the Intel processors are better and I think you get more for the money since the Intels tend to work better with media programs such as video editing, music production, photoshop etc. AMD is more of a gaming processor.

make sure ur using asio4all driver ... no crackle and no lag...

could be a virus dude.

I use Presonus studio one, leave fl cuz there were problems with vsti/plugins.
But still use fl for my beats

p.s. you have nice ram & proc. but u didnot say about your audio.
